Time travel is by no means a proper activity for a gentleman. Nevertheless, the deed is done!
  • I always thought the Humperdinck episode highlighted one of my less favorite tropes in sci-fi: that the first person we see of a given race creates the template that all other members of the race must follow.

The idea of the entire El-Aurian species being "a race of listeners," as Odo put it, always came across pretty poorly to me. Granted, they didn't lean too heavily on that for his characterization, but it rubbed me wrong that this "racially enlightened series" still reduced a whole race to a single quality that Guinan happened to be strong in.

  • People in San Francisco Are Mad That a New App Lets You Spy on Bars to See How Busy They Are
  • I'm shocked at what an unpopular thought this is. Like... If you go out in public, there's a very real risk that people in public will see you. If that's a concern you have, then you should take steps to not be seen in public. To me, that would mean not making my presence obvious when visiting a bar.

Camera or not, if people are looking for you, they will find ways to look for you in public places. You should always assume you're being watched, because you probably already are.

  • Biden’s debate performance spurs Democratic panic about his ability to lead party against Trump
  • The point isn't the "excuse", it's the criticism over him not having full power behind his voice during the debate being irrelevant.

Which is incidentally the only real criticism I could see this morning, beyond people falsely claiming he was incoherent. Which he absolutely was not.

  • Biden’s debate performance spurs Democratic panic about his ability to lead party against Trump
  • The biggest thing people are complaining about was Biden was a little hoarse against Trump's booming nonsensical rambling.

I don't care if Biden was hoarse. At Trump's best, he made no sense, and at his worst, he was pushing terrible ideologies

  • Biden’s debate performance spurs Democratic panic about his ability to lead party against Trump
  • How is it that the general response to this debate is "Trump rambled nonsensically and told conflicting lies and wants to undermine democracy, but Biden was recovering from a cold, so he's unfit."

Like in what world are these issues comparable?

  • Assange is FREE. Statement from his lawyer
  • Received dirt on the American Democrat party from the Russians and released it during the election to help Trump.

He said he received stuff on the Republicans as well, but it was "not interesting" and didn't publish it. Didn't really support his stated goal of transparency.

  • could we talk about... columbo?
  • I've been watching a lot of programs from the 60s and 70s lately, and Columbo is a great one. There's something so calming and disarming about the entire tone of the show, which Peter Falk fits perfectly into.

It's interesting, because after you've watched a few episodes, it becomes a great "background" show, with its low intensity. But if you're paying attention to it, despite the recurring themes each episode, they change things up enough that it doesn't get old like some shows from the period can be prone to do.

I'm not sure they could pull off the same vibe of a show quite as successfully today, but that's not so bad because there's so much existing material to go back and watch.

It's available on Prime video for anyone who's looking to give it a try

  • This is getting out of hand! Now there are more than 3 of them!
  • This is exactly why I roll my eyes at the people who are rabidly angry at the sequel trilogy. We've seen all this happen before, and it turns out no matter how bad we think it is, there's still a group that gets something special out of it. It wasn't cool for me to take the prequels so seriously and hate on them while a whole new generation of Star Wars fans were just getting into it. At the time, the kids loved Jar-Jar!

I'm not fond of the sequel trilogy. But I honestly think episode 8 was the best of the lot. And if there's people who like what these movies are, then that's a good thing for them

  • TNG v DS9
  • I'm not saying fan theories aren't allowed, I just said I'm not a fan of it.

I would hardly call their outings "secret" when it involves Kira getting into costume and walking clear across the promenade before deciding the holosuite isn't for her. I just didn't interpret any of the details as "hints they were dating" when the simpler "friends going out to do something fun" was not only on the table, it was clearly the intention of the scene.

For the record, I didn't see Garak and Julian as dating either. Sure, Garak may have been trying, but Julian was more enamored with the spy scenario and intrigue than Garak himself as a potential partner

  • TNG v DS9
  • Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of the tendency to interpret platonic relationships as sexual ones. I do get the desire for more representation, but I just wish the community wasn't so willing to ignore regular old platonic friendships.

I'm sure that comes mostly from me as a guy who puts more emphasis on strong platonic bonds than sexual relationships. But I just don't see Julian and O'Brien's "bromance" as a boyfriend relationship, nor did I see Kira and Jadzia's as dating either.

  • This is a great deal
  • I can only imagine what it would have been like to work with Tim Curry, JK Simmons, and George Takei on that game. So much ham from such talented people, I have to assume they were just having fun with it all.

  • Riker, the village roundabout
  • Man why does everyone blame O'Brien for any problem with transporters? He never even served on the Potemkin! I'm sure if he was Chief, he would have made sure to disintegrate Tom right then and there

  • Fallout 4 mods are broken again following update
  • Right, that's really more of a Steam issue than a Bethesda issue. I get why Valve and Bethesda don't want to provide customer support for old versions, but they don't have to. People have been figuring out their own problems when using obsolete systems or software for a long time.

I have no issue with Steam pushing the updates and encouraging you to take them, but giving no way to decline is a pretty poor user experience. Especially when we already know they keep old versions on their servers, as people have made guides on how to downgrade with Steam

  • Loki didn't know I was taking the photo

He is 20 years old and would never admit to participating in bleptember
