  • Hmm.. I don't know where you worked, but your experience seems to have sucked.

Nowadays I feel that it's not so much about how late you stay in the office. Most professional jobs now are hybrid. Part time in the office, part time work from home. Managers don't see how much time you spend on work at home. So this mindset has changed quite a bit since the pandemic.

Regarding learning new things, you're asking them to sacrifice a whole hour. Even in a 40h work week that's a lot of precious time and it's difficult to get everyone together at the same time to do a learning session. Maybe let them learn in their own time by providing a video or documentation on the topic instead.

Finally, you wouldn't believe how much time I spend on chores during my work hours. I still get my work done on time. Which proves a 32h 4 day work week is totally doable for professionals working 9-5 office jobs. Of course for other fields it might have a greater impact, like construction. But they can plan around that and allow more time to finish their projects.

  • Actually they have. Many times. They mainly want to defund the police and use these funds for other social programs meant to reduce crime overall. Social housing is one of them. Legalizing drugs, sex work, increasing wages to allow people to afford their basic needs like shelter and food, providing better access to mental health services and social workers, etc.

Conservatives on the other hand want the opposite. They want to defund everything else and give it all to the cops who are just going to beat up and arrest people who are clearly in need of help. Can't afford shelter? Camp in a park. But that's illegal. Can't afford food? Steal it. But that's illegal. Can't get mental health? Go in full mental breakdown and use illegal drugs to try and self medicate. But that's illegal.

    Get the point?

  • He's not only describing the problem, he's putting the finger on the source and pointing it out. And it looks like it's this unfettered capitalism that the conservatives and liberals have been pushing and gaslighting us into believing it's the only solution to our economic problems, when it's ,in fact, the very source.

  • Thank you for explaining the differences. I've had several heated arguments with several users on this community where they tried to compare the AUR with these other solutions you mentioned. There's a big difference between them. Namely regarding who controls the user repos. You explained the differences very well and I hope others understand better now just how AUR is dangerous and how this is negatively affecting the reputation of Arch and Linux in general with the wider public.

It really should be shut down for Arch's sake. If people want to provide a package with certain modifications, just let users get it off your git repo and build it themselves with the proper instructions. It's not that much safer, but just enough that it should prevent this kind of widespread problem.

  • I'm 100% behind you with this.

And every time I mentioned how it was a bad idea to vote for Carney and how bad he is, I kept being downvoted and then people comment "yeah but we would've has Poilievre otherwise."

No we wouldn't. A lot of NDP ridings turned red because of this. But people should have voted for the NDP. With them as a strong opposition, we would still be in a better position in a minority big C Conservative government than we are right now with a majority small c conservative government.

Carney is a corporatist. He knows how to sweet talk investors to gain their trust like any CEO can bullshit people into buying their stock. And he's done that with all of Canada.
