Anyone has been using Wayland with zero issues?
  • I wouldn't say 0 issues as I have occasional clipboard issues with XWayland apps or KWin crashing results in loss of work. I also find my HP Anyware PCoIP performance to be slightly downgraded compared to X11.

However, the upsides, such as multi-refresh rate and what feels like smoother performance on my RX 6900 XT (home, Tuxedo OS) and Vega 56 (office, KDE Neon) far outweigh it.

  • Plasma and Ansible on enterprise thin clients
  • Probably 24.10

But I need to use Kubuntu as the software we primarily need to use it on supports 22.04 & 20.04.

I could use Neon, but I need to test to be sure I can mirror the repo with no problems, with means I may need to wait for Neon with 24.04, which may take a while.

discuss.kde.org Plasma and Ansible on enterprise thin clients - changing default Plasma settings

I’m currently exploring replacing GNOME with KDE Plasma on thin clients when we transition from Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04 (or 24.04 if HP Anywhere will have PCoIP ready by then). With GNOME having the ability to use dconf to edit keybindings, default applications, favorite apps on the sidebar, etc., wh...

How do I render a video with 2 languages, and have a video player like VLC choose between 2 audio tracks (i.e. 1 track for Japanese and the other for English)?

discuss.kde.org When will Neon Unstable switch to 24.04?

I understand that the plan for stable would be to wait for 24.04.1 to come out, but what about Unstable and Testing? Kinda hoping it won’t take long after 24.04.01 comes out before Neon Stable and TuxedoOS to get 24.04.

When will Neon Unstable switch to 24.04?

  • For laptops with RGB-backlit keyboards, Plasma has gained the ability to keep the backlight color in sync with the active accent color! And support for custom colors is coming too

Does that include QMK keyboards (i.e. Keychron) that get tweaked with VIA?

  • Google cuts team of contractors who went on strike
  • The thing is that these contractors shouldn't expect to be in the same level as a regular employee in terms of importance. And if they didn't fire these people, but they simply didn't bother to renew the contract, then that solidifies that position.

This past few months (can't recall how long it has been) have been full of layoffs across various industries. Their position just became even weaker.

  • I really hope that they do let us know what went wrong with Neon during Plasma 6's release. I love Neon, and will stick with it.
discuss.kde.org Has the Neon team considered working with Tuxedo as their QA team for Neon?

I’m really sorry it’s been so rocky on Neon. The roll-out of Neon’s packaging of Plasma 6 was unacceptable, and we’ll be conducting an investigation to determine how it happened and make sure it doesn’t recur.

discuss.kde.org Panels are freaking out on Plasma 6

I just installed Plasma 6 on my work PC (KDE Neon). My main monitor has 2 panels: top panel and a left panel. Both panels were set to fill width/height, and it was causing my top panel to freak out. And the desktop to lock up. My fix for now is to set the width to custom and disable floating. I ad...

Plasma 6 (Wayland) is laggy on my laptop running on 6th gen i5

I'm not sure if this is normal, but it seems that Plasma 6 (Wayland) feels overall slow on my laptop with Intel i5-6200U.

Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition KDE Plasma Version: 5.90.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.246.0 Qt Version: 6.6.0 Kernel Version: 6.2.0-37-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 520 Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Product Name: Inspiron 5559

I only got this laptop recently from a friend so I have yet to test on X11 session. The only other time I've spent using Plasma was on a RTX 3060 Ti in a VM so it didn't feel as slow.

    Is that normal?

    Created bug report 477959.

My current setup after "downsizing" from 2x dual monitor setup to a single setup

    Before:

Full view of my makeshift L-desk now:

2nd desk is also a bedside table in my bedroom.

I decided few months ago to downsize as I find myself needing my 2nd desk for other stuff other than for my GPU-passthrough VMs and laptop setup, but I still want the option to do that, so I got myself an LG DualUp, since it's one of the monitors that can do proper 16x9 when split and would require very minimal amount of config when going from full size to picture-by-picture.
