Aeropress has easily become my favourite way to brew coffee ☕
  • The slight pressurization (and ability to change it by how hard you press) and speed of use would be two advantages over pour over.

It doesn't require hand dexterity or, really, hand strength. Basically you put the plunger in it and press down. Body weight or mild strength is all it takes. They're very affordable, so perhaps worth trying.

Unless you don't like microplastics. The entire thing is plastic.

Edit: they have a newer, more expensive version made of Tritan crystal. I know nothing about the composition of Tritan crystal and whether there is anything that can leech or whatever from it, but I would assume it gets rid of the microplastic concern. Though I'm not sure what the "rubber" stopper is made from.

  • Remember that?
  • Whitmer polled 4 points lower than Biden against Trump. The best polling candidates are Buttigieg, Newsom, Harris, and, obviously, M. Obama, who polls as winning in a landslide but has said she will not run under any circumstances.

  • Remember that?
  • According to the Ipsos poll, Michelle Obama, who beats Trump by 11 points.

Even Harris polls 2 points higher than Biden, believe it or not. Biden has had the lowest approval ratings in the history of modern polling, so finding a replacement that polls better than him wouldn't actually be that difficult.

I don't think the incumbent advantage is as meaningful when you're literally the least popular president of the 20th and 21st centuries. And, yes, that includes Trump. Think about that.

  • why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out.
  • Because Trump is winning in the polls handily and has robust support from his base.

Biden is the opposite: he's losing in the polls, his disapproval numbers are the highest in the history of modern polling, and many of the people that will vote for him will do it only because they have to.

  • Is anyone else highly concerned with the SCOTUS ruling that the POTUS is immune from criminal liability?
  • Good time to remind people that a higher proportion of millennials and gen z voted in mid-term elections than baby boomers or baby boomer babies (gen x) did at equivalent ages.

Millennials voted in the last presidential election at a rate that represents the highest level of youth electoral participation since the voting age was lowered to 18. Gen Z seems poised to do something similar, as this will be the first presidential election where a majority of Gen Z will be old enough to vote.

Additionally, gen x is the only generational cohort that voted LESS in the last mid term elections than the one before it, i.e., participation in elections declined for that cohort. I guess they were too busy... idk, doing whatever gen x does instead of voting.

This whole post is just one long "the kids are the problem because of their phones and video games," but I'm pretty sure the most politically active youth generations in modern history aren't ruining democracy by playing video games.

Anyway. Basically what I'm saying is: ok boomer. Oh well, whatever, nevermind, right?

  • Gathered at Camp David, Biden's family tells him to stay in the race and keep fighting
  • Interestingly, according to the most recent Ipsos poll where they polled different candidates against Trump, every major democratic candidate lost in the polling to Trump including Kamala (who did poll I think one point better than Biden), some by a lot...

Except Michelle Obama, who won in the polling against Trump by 11 points (50-39), i.e. by a landslide. I was pretty surprised by that.

  • Trump Had His Own Brain Freeze Moment Like Biden This Week
  • They're "getting this" from reality. Delegates are not legally bound to vote for whomever they've pledged to support from the primaries. It is strongly encouraged to do so, but whether they actually do is a matter of norms rather than an enforceable law. And a handful of delegates have voted other than their pledge numerous times in the past.

There's nothing stopping delegates from deciding to vote for whoever they'd like. And if enough of them can be convinced to nominate someone other than Biden, that's the actual nominee. Primaries don't actually matter other than serving as a way to influence the national convention: who the delegates vote for at the national convention is all that matters, and they are not legally bound to their pledge.

  • First Presidential Debate Megapost!
  • All the post-debate commentary basically says everyone they're hearing from in the party and undecided voters were like... yeah, we are fucked.

They have even made the point that he's not technically the nominee until the convention twice so far. I.e., we need a new candidate.

    And it CAN'T BE KAMALA.

  • First Presidential Debate Megapost!
  • Biden got fucking body slammed in this debate. It doesn't matter that Trump is nonsensical. No one expected him to make sense. Biden just looked weak, confused, and mumbled his way through most of the debate.

I can't see how this possibly convinced anyone to vote for Biden. But I can definitely see how it probably demoralized democratic voters. This is just so awkward to watch.

  • First Presidential Debate Megapost!
  • Dammit joe. Say "you've decimated the middle class, and that's demonstrated by the fact that you can't even address the question of how you'll help people struggling to pay for childcare even when you were given two chances."

  • Wall Street is to blame, why are we suffering?

Ok, so obviously no one here has done anything to make this world what it is. Wall Street, corporations, and racist social structures are why the world is how it is, and that is just the truth.

I don't understand why I should feel bad about anything when obviously all of these rich assholes and structures of oppression exist. I didn't make them.

Until the corporations and wealthy people change, why should I feel guilty or bad about things. This literally isn't my fault, they did this, so I just feel like I should be able to live my life and not have to worry about all this. Why can't I?
