Missouri has decided to turn down millions in federal food aid for low-income children
  • Yep, this should not have been a state decision, nor should the states have to have been the ones to try and implement it, because as this shows many can't and/or won't.

If the federal government was serious about providing food aid for low income children, they would do it at a federal level.

  • I find it hard to believe that the workers didn't see this coming....

They're contractors. They're not permanent employees. They can, generally, be let go at any time for any reason whatsoever - or no reason at all. It's crap, but they're some of the risks of being a contractor. The benefits of higher pay, choose your own hours, choose your own workplace, etc have to be weighed against said risks.

  • Is it really a mass exodus? And is it really a mass exodus to lemmy?
  • I seriously doubt reddit has seen any significant drop in traffic or unique visitors. Looking back at some of the subs I frequented, they're all business as usual. The mods all backed down the second that they had their mod status threatened, as expected. Almost all of the users I saw that said they were leaving on July 1 when their 3rd party app stopped working are still there.

I deleted my account and moved here, as clearly a lot of people did, but it's a drop in the ocean and that's not even to say that the people that moved here have stopped using reddit.

  • The problem here is that the federal government didn't provide the framework and services for states to use this federal aid - it's up to the states to each create the new infrastructure and data collection/reporting services themselves. That's a backwards arse way of doing it. The federal government should have created the necessary services and given the states access.

  • If you read the article it has nothing to do with "the state being run by terrorists" - it's that they don't have the infrastructure and data collection necessary to do it. They have pledged that they will focus on getting it implemented so they can do it.

McGowin pledged that going forward the state will “focus on implementing the system changes necessary to facilitate participation in summer EBT programs in future years.”

But for Missouri to participate in next year’s program, “the state’s data collection systems need to be addressed well in advance,” McGowin said.

“The current P-EBT programs have required data to be collected from schools that DESE does not normally collect,” she said. “We must then address how the data can be most efficiently and effectively shared with DSS, and shared in a way that more seamlessly integrates with DSS’ benefit administration systems.”

Woody said the state’s pledge to make changes to better operate the program in future years is “the only bright spot.”

Maybe the federal government should be the ones building these data collection services so that the states simply have to opt-in and use the government created facilities?

You can choose none, or every option between 1 and 10 per hour. I choose 10 because then I get paid the most and I literally just click "close" on the little popup that comes up in the bottom right of the screen, or I just ignore it.

    Have you actually used it?

Did you know that the NFL isn't a male football league? It's actually open to all sexes. Women can play in the NFL. There has never been a woman make an NFL team. Same with many big sporting leagues. One woman, Lauren Silberman, actually got a tryout as a kicker a few years back:

  • Of course, people here would instead rather argue about the amount of money being sent or “ackshully it’s just equipment” or “ackshully they’re just loans they’ll pay back” but they miss the big picture and would rather just mass downvotes.

I don’t care about any advertisers, and I damn well aren’t sending any of them any money lol.

Are these things not happening despite all the video evidence and new articles about it happening?

  • That doesn’t happen. Name 1 trans man that has won a sporting event over a biological male.

And yes, I do think that trans men should not have access to male “safe spaces”, if such a thing exists. I didn’t mention trans men because it’s not an issue. Women’s sports exist exactly because biological women can’t compete with biological men on a physical level.
