A guide to switching your Audiobook app to support more ethical and EU-based companies!
  • As a audible user, I was so excited to try this out. Lots of alternatives don't have a large selection, and the next best thing is to sail the seven seas. But I also want to support the author.

Downloaded Storytel, and not supported in America. Dang. Free me from this Audible hellhole.

  • F**k Amazon
  • Goodreads is like Yelp for books.

Find a book written by a right wing author. Hundreds of ratings, and the reviews don't even talk about the book beyond the description. Lots of pesudo-science and bad faith arguments.

I got scammed by a few books. And worse, call out the issues with the books and your review gets shadow banned. Amazon doesn't have a urgency to remove these fake reviews because it'll affect sales.

  • Elevated
  • Ive already been on edge for the past 30 years with how American products aren't allowed directly in other countries because the EU bans certain chemicals.

    And post-DOGE, I'm absolutely mortified.

  • If the USA and China goes to war, how likely will Chinese-Americans end up in "internment camps" (aka: concentration camps) like what happened to Japanese-Americans during WW2?
  • Covid was a glimpse.

I had coworkers who left small towns because they were Asian. Imagine being Filipino and having racists shout Chinaflu at you. Every single Asian person I met has a story.

I also had a friend disown their parents because they harassed a Thai family all during covid, calling them child smugglers. I've met these people, and they were perfectly wonderful 15 years ago. Just oblivious racists.

  • I have a bachelor in game design btw...

This is why I like saying "average person" when I talk about specific topics.

People who study the art are much more attuned and go out of the ordinary. Like directors when they watch movies.

  • What were you surprised to learn wasn't actually normal?
  • This is how I feel with a lot of vices.

I think the worst part is when people don't realize they're addicted and have a lower-than-average life. Streamers normalizing things like peeing in bottles or living in a mess. Or just being addicted to doom scrolling and not going outside to interact with the real world.

And if the person doesn't have the tools to reflect on their situation, they're kind of screwed. They don't know what to change.

  • Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version
  • Oh boy. If you look at Ubisoft's stock prices, it's way down.

    Like high 80s in 2018. And now it's 8, roughly 1/10th if it's value.

They aren't going to survive another few years at this rate without some bangers. How stupid their leadership has been, with NFTs, with their sexual harassment lawsuits, with bonehead anti-consumer practices is just accelerating this downfall.

  • Protestation
  • My art teacher in middle school would rant for hours about how awful Photoshop was for the industry, as "Photoshop effects" in movies are so noticeable. She was part of the group who wanted to ban CGI and Pixar because it wasn't real art.

  • The interns complained about having to pay $18 for parking and I'm conflicted

I work downtown. I personally take the bus to work and walk.

While getting feedback from our paid intern's experience, one complained about having to pay for parking.

Because I naturally always support the interns, I pushed for that perk. Why shouldn't they get all the help they need? They're young, they have a busy life and they're trying their best.

But my coworker (who drives) said, "Theres street parking and they are complaining they have to walk 14 minutes over."

Now my internal "Fuck Cars" position is battling with my "Give the Interns everything".

I'm not the deciding factor. Just wanted to share this.
