Work to prepare for Prairie Green landfill search has started, province says

  • It felt similar to the TFO with the multiple shipyards and genocidal Klingon lady.

I've only run it once, but agreed. I did find the geography of the map a little confusing, but I'm sure I'll learn the lay of the land after some more runs through it.

  • Patrol: "Out of Control"

It's a pretty standard "defeat 5 groups of enemies" patrol, with the added wrinkle of the timed AoE attacks from the Borg. I actually enjoy this mechanic, especially when I'm in a slow-as-shit cruiser like I was when I ran the patrol today.

The story is nothing to write home about, as is usually the case with patrols. Alt-universe Iconians need our protection, blah blah blah.

For a brief moment, I thought maybe the other shoe was going to drop re: the Aetherians, but it was not to be (it also would have been very strange for that to happen in a patrol).

  • Producer David Richardson said: “This was an absolute treat to work on. The Fugitive Doctor is such a brilliant, head-turning twist in this amazing long-running show we all love, and script editor Robert Valentine and I had such fun making plans.

“Thirteenth Doctor showrunner, Chris Chibnall, very generously gave up his time and met with us on Zoom while we threw around ideas and he gave us some clarifications about this most enigmatic era of Doctor Who. We came out of that meeting elated, full of purpose and sure of our direction.

“Chris told us that Jo was fantastic and a gorgeous person to work with, and he was absolutely right of course – she came into the studio full of joy for the part, always smiling, always brilliant and charismatic. The Fugitive Doctor now has her own audio series – and as the saying goes, it’s about time…”

Okay, I actually think it's pretty cool that Chibnall is taking an active interest in the audio stuff.

  • CBC has this to add:

Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE Inc.), which owns 37.5 per cent of MLSE, said in a Wednesday press release that the deal is expected to close in mid-2025.

The company said that it is selling its ownership stake to reduce its debt and "support its ongoing transformation" from a telecommunications firm to a tech company.

What the hell are they doing over there?

  • Whoever decided to try to tie this situation to the Nygard trial needs to seriously rethink their life choices.

"We believe serving in caucus while actively practicing as a criminal defense attorney is a conflict of interest" is far more defensible than "this guy works with someone who defended a reprehensible criminal."

  • Yeah, probably - it's funnier to give an elaborate rationale for guessing the wrong answer, and Ben's enough of a foodie that I'd expect him to do a little better with "pollo" than he has.

That said, the polos are both obscure enough sports that I'm never confident with my own guesses...

  • Manitoba's NDP government has removed MLA Mark Wasyliw from its caucus after the party learned one of his business partners is the acting criminal defence lawyer for convicted sexual predator Peter Nygard.

Okay...it sounds like they were just looking for an excuse, no matter how flimsy.

  • I don't even know why I checked the website, I usually don't bother on weekends.

  • I think the ship is a standard reclaimable, account-wide unlock.

  • I think it's possible to get a little salty about the state of things without turning the community (such as it is) into a wretched hive of scum and villainy - I think you're in the clear.

It's funny, I don't think the current storyline has been bad, necessarily - just uninteresting. Maybe they were a year or two too late to hop on the multiversal bandwagon, even though it makes perfect sense in a Trek context.

  • Important note about one of the prizes:

    Pulse Phaser Weapon Pack

This pack is account bound, and not reclaimable. It will be granted to the character who claims the Grand Prize.

  • This is probably well beyond the scope of what these nights are about, but I do wonder what they did with the "Picard" season three bridge set.

  • I actually don't have a satisfactory answer to my own question.

Star Trek was a prominent part of the popular culture when I was a kid, so it was easy to have a basic knowledge of TOS without actually seeing it.

I think I probably saw Star Trek IV first, and the first episode I can clearly remember watching is "Unification II", though I'm pretty certain I saw something before then.

  • I was mostly concerned about the docking pylons being too realistic, but I can't guarantee that wouldn't happen, either.

  • I think those have all been added, IIRC.

    Not sure about the Enterprise-G.

  • I think the episode implies ethical issues, but stops well short of spelling them out. The fact that Kingsley concealed the childrens' true natures for as long as she did suggests that their research was not on the up-and-up.

My best guess is that the station's research, on paper, fell within Federation regulations, but their actual work did not. But that's stretching pretty far, given that no one explicitly raises the issue.

  • This is the first I've ever heard of a login required at star trek dot com.

It's mainly a charity thingie - TrekCore has a summary.

Maybe more importantly, it doesn't look like they're doing any panels on Star Trek Day this year.

  • I'll be seeing you

In all the old familiar places

That this heart of mine embraces

    All day through

  • I think the season really gets cooking with "Boom," and there's a string of pretty solid episodes in there.

All in all, a pretty average season (and I don't mean that in a bad way - it was just pretty typical highs and lows).
