NYCC 2023 | Star Trek: Sons of Star Trek Comic to Debut Next Spring

  • A lot of people played the dilithium exchange before it collapsed (I assume it hasn't recovered, I never really go into that stuff).

If you have a lot of Elite Marks from TFOs lying around, they can be sold for dilithium in the reputation system. That can help quite a bit.

  • Those vanity shields are worth saving for, if you don't have dilithium earmarked for anything else - I'm a big fan of my Section 31-equipped Crossfield (OG version).

  • I think this is unclear, as the CRTC isn't expected to have the actual policies developed until sometime next year.

However, this is in the text of the bill:

6 This Act applies in respect of a digital news intermediary if, having regard to the following factors, there is a significant bargaining power imbalance between its operator and news businesses:

    (a) the size of the intermediary or the operator;

    (b) whether the market for the intermediary gives the operator a strategic advantage over news businesses; and

    (c) whether the intermediary occupies a prominent market position.

I can't imagine this ever applying to decentralized social media.

  • Is there any indication whatsoever that Facebook is willing to enter into negotiations with the government over this? If there is, I missed it.

  • As an aside, I encourage everyone to check out the accompanying comics - they're not exactly deep, but I'm finding them much more entertaining than the actual shorts - they're basically a Star Trekkification of "Duck Amuck".

    Issue 1

    Issue 2

    Issue 3

  • I've seen some good reviews of the first couple - I think you have to be into a very specific type of Adult Swim-type humour that was in style about 15 years ago - but the only review I've seen of the latest one was not positive (and this was from a reviewer who quite enjoyed last week's instalment).

But whatever, they're ultimately inconsequential, having been described by Paramount from the very start as "promotional shorts".

  • Well, the comic is by a completely different creative team...

  • Yes indeed - it's basically a Star Trek version of "Duck Amuck." Very lightweight, but I'm enjoying it more than the actual shorts. The first one is linked here.

  • I'm not enjoying the "series" much, but Frakes was very good in this.

  • A new survey suggests that most Canadians feel news should be free and accessible for anyone

    Yes.

while also believing that media will find other ways to make money.

    Doubt.

  • I would definitely recommend accessing all sorry missions from the third tab of the Mission Journal.

As you progress, it might also be worth looking at the "Available" tab - it will have some story arcs that are a little old and dated, and have been removed from the "main" story without being completely removed from the game.

  • They've also been recalled in the States, so it may have been identified as an issue there, or in another jurisdiction. With only 12 units sold in Canada, it seems likely.

  • When new episodes come out, they get the "spotlight" and everyone can play them for a limited time, regardless of where they are in the story. If you tab over to Episodes, you should be able to see where you actually are - you just have to ignore the automatic hails (there is actually a setting to disable them).

It's a bit annoying, but some players really want immediate access to the shiny new rewards.

  • This content is more appropriate for c/Quarks (and has been shared there already).
