CBC cancels New Year's Eve broadcast special due to 'financial pressures'

  • I think it's only in the last decade or so that it's become a practical reality, with likenesses of deceased actors popping up in films. Until this point, it's probably been enough of a hypothetical that it wasn't worth fighting over.

  • The Cerritos’ captain’s yacht is a similar design to that of the Enterprise E but distinct enough to assume they’re not supposed to be the same spaceframe.

I was glad to see this - the most obvious difference is the design of the nacelle struts, which was obviously a compromise in Insurrection to fit the yacht into the underside of the saucer. It really wouldn't make sense on another ship.

  • It's likely that they would have the right to order more from CBS Studios if they think it's worth the investment.

  • To be honest, if he was, by his own admittance, standing on a public sidewalk for 30 minutes with his gear, then he earned that loitering fine.

According to this very article, with emphasis added,

Quebec City's municipal bylaw says that is "prohibited for a person, without a reasonable motive … to loiter, wander or sleep in a street or a public space."

[Criminal defence lawyer Florence Boucher Cossette] said Morris likely has a good shot at winning his case, as people accused of loitering when they were sunbathing or drinking coffee on a bench were acquitted in previous cases.

  • It’s worth noting that Bibic has a history of threatening to pull investments whenever the government does something he doesn’t like. Earlier this year, Bibic suggested there would be “unintended consequences” if the government and CRTC pushed more regulations on the big telecom companies, and Bell joined other telcos in threatening investments over a wholesale ruling in 2019.

  • The Romulan operative Nedar wore sunglasses while on duty as Starfleet Commodore Oh - this suggests they're at least an option for Starfleet officers.

If you go way back to the United Earth Starfleet, Archer and Trip both wore sunglasses while on duty.

  • A) Welcome to the internet.

    B) I don't actually think it's unreasonable to think that a headline should clearly indicate the subject of the article - why have headlines otherwise?

  • Perhaps the headline should have reflected the actual topic more accurately.

  • It tickles me that brining Shannon Fill out of retirement for a handful of lines gave her her first screen credit since 1995.

  • The good news is they're still talking, which is a big improvement over the recent status quo.

  • At least in my part of the country, they've been cracking down on rust significantly, even on non-structural parts of the vehicle.

  • As far as we know, Discovery's final series should be next to release, though they haven't pinned it down beyond "early 2024."

  • There's no evidence to suggest this has happened.

  • Nova Fleet? They'd better bring in Red Squad to clean up this mess.

  • No idea - I was just digging for a possible alternative explanation. I don't really buy it, myself.

  • Hiding in plain sight, perhaps?

Alternatively, maybe he built the ship, but it's being used by someone else.
