  • Seriously, the two low/mid range Japanese clothing companies in my country (Uniqlo & Muji) both make very good garments, especially for the price.

The bit that is harder to interpret is whether my assumption of Muji and Uniqlo being good quality is true (even when compared to clothing of yesteryear), or if it's relative to most other clothes on the market being cheaply made trash.

Or do the nice high quality garments of previous generations survive (much like some tools, appliances, furniture), whilst the cheap crap existed, broke and just ended up in the landfill, creating the perception of things used to be made to a higher quality?

  • Not who you responded to, but from the article:

“Blast furnaces in the UK have been loss-making for the better part of a decade and been economically unviable due to competition from Chinese and Indian blast furnaces, along with rising energy costs in the UK.”

Which makes me think there isn't much profit to be had even for business, I imagine China invested with the long term plan of effectively cornering the UK market and eventually shutting the plant down, increasing our reliance on Chinese steel.

And was the loss of money from the plant British money, or Chinese?

Either way, I am also in agreement that it should be nationalised.

  • I was curious if they were using farmed bugs or something else

From the page for the bug Dpads:

Rest assured, no creepy crawlies were harmed in creating these unique dpads – each bug was respectfully collected after natural passing, discovered in serene settings like windowsills, tangled in spider webs, or peacefully outdoors. These DPADs are not just gaming accessories; they're a tribute to the beauty of nature, combined with the thrill of Halloween! 🕷🍂

  • Either AI written, or a bad way of phrasing this update from their kickstarter, which suggests that there's a deadline for any unclaimed physical rewards from the kickstarter for Firmament, suggesting that they've still been shipping them up until now

Though the fact that they called it an upcoming title makes me think AI helped write the article.

  • How do you deal with any other languages aside from English? Even if a product is destined for an English only market (which let's be honest are basically small toys with English on them and English language books), anyone manufacturing will likely be using components manufactured in multiple different countries, with different languages and different ways of structuring names etc.

This is basically how you used to get Chinglish names and instructions for stuff on cheap products from China

If you want to see the outcome of what your currently suggesting, lookup longest car names, there's a lot more English in them, as well as abbreviations yet they're still a mess to understand/interpret from a layman's perspective

  • I used to really love palladium boots, but most of them are now made in China with the accompanying drop in quality.

I had a decent couple of leather pairs, and have gone through maybe 3 canvas/fabric pairs in the past 12 months.

And ever since they paid a Kardashian to advertise them they've become massively overpriced.

It's a shame as I used to love them

  • Standard doses of each should be fine unless you have a known liver issue, or have decided to drink a litre of grapefruit juice today.

The concern is normally due to enzyme inhibition increasing concentrations of either, but in a healthy person the chances of an interaction are minimal.

As a seperate point benadryl is not the healthiest thing to help you sleep, personally I'm a fan of magnesium glycinate 300mg and L-Tryptophan 600mg; clean sleep that still works just as well after taking it for 6 years as it did the first month.

Benedryl as an occasional sleep aid isn't great, but regular use is correlated with an increased risk of dementia.

Take a half dose of each if you're still concerned.

  • Weirdly it was the lamb chops my primary school did, they came from the aluminum tray pre sliced to about 4-5mm, dripping in gravy and were beyond tender. I have no idea they did them but they had no right being as good as they were.

Part of me fondly remembers turkey twizzlers, then another part of me remembers losing my first tooth to one and crunching it... I also imagine they're revolting in a way that only a small child could enjoy.

    Oh also iced buns

  • "Fact" would imply that there's a level of certainty about it, I would only argue it's fact if it happens an overwhelming amount of the time, or is party policy, or is done by senior leadership.

The question is what is meant by "a thought that doesn’t fit the narrative"?

Please give some examples, because they could be talking about likeing pineapple on pizza, or they could be talking about 'A womans place is in the home'; the latter would be something I'd expect a Nazi or a misogynist to say and agree with.

Does purely saying that make you either? Perhaps not, but if someone has a history and pattern of making similar statements that when looked at could paint a picture that certainly looks like a Nazi or misogynist.

Oh and toxic masculinity harms men, as much if not moreso than it harms women. It's the part that tells people to man up when they are struggling as opposed to actually helping. It the thing that makes men who have experienced abuse or rape not speak up cause his 'mates' will take the piss, it's a contributing factor in the amount of teenagers and young men who are suffering due to knife crime.

The point being is it's been twisted by the rights narative to say it's attacking men, when in reality it's a term given for harmful behavior and a harmful ideal to adhere to.

The one point being when discussing toxic masculinity, it should be paired with discussions of positive masculinity.

What hasn't happened is a mens liberation movement where we move passed the whole, men are robots whose feelings extend to happy, horny and angry.

  • You got any links to explain this in some more detail?

Because this just causes my brain to jam when trying to comprehend...

Like what diameter of black hole are we talking?

And what is the critical mass of the black whole before it starts to cascade and grow?

  • You can do a thing called a live tissue transfer where you use living flesh of the mushroom to inoculate agar then use that to inoculate a growing medium such as brown rice/grain.

I would suggest getting a copy of Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms By Paul Stamets

The person has some bad takes and I disagree with how he markets some shit nowadays, but this book was written 20 years ago and is by far and wide the best and most approachable book on the subject of growing edible/medicinal and psychedelic mushrooms out there, including what you're asking OP.

Genuinely one of the best resources to get started with.
