Stay safe down under
  • I meet kangaroos a lot on daily basis. One of my dogs was obsessed with chasing them (he still loves to but I have more control over him now). A few times he cornered a roo and I had no chance of calling him off or catching him to drag him away. Some of these guys were over 2 metres tall. Roos are cut AF and their claws are as large as carnivore claws. Trust me, you don't want a roo to touch you. Anyway, a stick to keep them at sufficient distance to be able to retrieve my dog was all I ever needed, but to be safe I started carrying a knife too; roo meat is very tasty.

  • What is your easy to prepare go to meal to cook when you want to impress someone?
  • Spaghetti aglio e olio. Sounds fancy yet it could not be simpler. Cook spaghetti or linguine or my favourite angel hair pasta. Meanwhile peel and slice garlic. Heat good quality EVOO in a pan and when the pasta is nearly ready toss in the garlic (I also like to add in sliced red chilli). Once garlic starts turning light golden toss in the pasta with a little bit of the pasta water and mix together. Serve sprinkled with shaved parmesan and some finely chopped parsley, oregano, marjoram or any green herb of choice for a little bit of colour (optional). Nice crusty garlic bread on the side and for a couple of bucks and 20 minutes of your time you're sure to impress anyone.

  • Eat it
  • This is not a forgone conclusion. Depends on the pizza base. A good pizza base has a tasty crust that I'll devour, conversely a bad pizza base has a terrible crust and I very likely not finish the pizza and leave all the crust.

  • The Folding of Japanese Swords: Turning "Crap Materials" into Masterpieces
  • Oh my g.o.d! Do you think a swordsman main weapon was a bazooka? I'm not an expert on Japan, but in Europe the side arm was a dagger, which was very commonly used alongside with certain types of swords such as rapiers. Arches did not carry swords at all, though they could have had knives. A sword was a nobleman's weapon and a peasant would forfeit their life if in possession of one (archers included). The same applied I Japan.

  • Democrats worry their most loyal voters won’t turn out for Biden in 2024
  • And you actually believe what you're saying?

Do you know how they finance their campaigns? Do you think that your concerns outweigh one of the campaign donations they get? If you multiply your concerns by 130k it still won't match a single donation from a corporate donor in their interest.

  • What is an item below 100 bucks that everyone should own?
  • I fully get you. It's just that it's a couple more things to carry and worry about getting wet. I'm learning to draw so I try to carry a sketchbook (A5), a pencil and an eraser, but it bulks up my EDC to the point where I need a bag. Then there's the other problem, where when I write something down I remember it, which after awhile convinces me that I don't need to write stuff down.

  • What's going on with the downvote button?

Today after updating Voyager the downvote button was gone. What is the reason for removing it? Is lemmy going the way of YouTube?
