Update: I wasn't able to fiddle with it for a few days but after getting back to it have something I like.
My current settings are based on the feedback in this thread and:
z-offset made the single biggest difference. I reset the printer config and re-leveled.

I printed a tower a few days ago and it looks good anywhere from 200 to 215. I'm going to keep trying though.
z offset / nozzle height seems to be the thing. I've raised it up and it looks better. After that I played with the temp a bit and it seems to be happier around 210-215 though there is more stringing.
So far, all attempts at ironing have been a disaster, both zig zag and concentric. I'm going to continue dialing in the z offset and temp before ironing.
Weird. I couldn't post the original pic but a screenshot of it seems to work.
The spool doesn't say "silk" but the sticker does say print temp 215-230: https://www.amazon.com/Inland-1-75mm-White-Printer-Filament/dp/B084RDMG7C/ I'll give that a shot & see if it looks any better.
This is layer 2 or 3. It will be covered by the next few layers but I feel like it shouldn't be this fugly. I'm using Cura's Standard Quality except for temp which is set to 205. The filament is Inland PLA.
I have a Zoom65v2 that's almost perfect but doesn't support QMK so I've been shopping around and wanted to get the community's opinions before making a decision.
My criteria:
- size: 60-65%
- firmware: QMK
- layout standard: ansi
- layout ergonomics: normal
- hot-swappable: required, my soldering days are behind me
- per-key RGB (QMK rgb_matrix) is a must have
- underlighting (QMK rgblight) would be a plus
The kprepublic bm60/bm68 and Tofu 60/65 (2.0) are currently at the top of my list. I have a bm40 that I could only love more if it had more code space.
(I'm selling the Zoom65v2 if anyone is interested.)
I have heard that when cars were a rare thing in the Old West that drivers had to stop at intersections, get out, and fire a gun to warn any horse-powered cross traffic. It sounds like total bs but there have been stranger laws...
Yeah, I like it. I'll be playing with the acoustics for a while to get the sound I want. The wireless is solid, no drops or other headaches. I had an issue with it loosing my custom config a couple of times on the default firmware but not since flashing the latest. My chief complaint is that it doesn't support qmk. I'm not clear on why, though, since it supports Via and I thought qmk was a prerequisite for it.
I've got some coming in from Ali along with a couple of others that were mentioned. They won't arrive for a bit though.
Thanks for summarizing. That guy has a ton of videos!
Hmm... I have gateron blues in my Keychron but they're not hot-swap. I may pickup a 10 pack of the Cherry's to test.
Thanks for the tip. I'll research that asap.
Thank you! Gold / yellow is hard to get right. I just finished my Zoom65 V2 with kailh box jades and cheap Amazon caps. The sound is ok but I want something "deeper" and louder from the alpha keys. What do y'all suggest? Pulling out the foam in the bottom of the case and underside of the PCB definitely helped. I've done the tape mod and plan to do the holee mod when I open it up again.
Did you know that a cow is more aerodynamic than a Jeep?
Amazing results! Thank you for all of your hard work. The collaboration among the admins is inspiring.
I also created accounts on both lemmy.world and mastodon. I know I can view mastodon content in the lemmy app (jeroba) and vice versa. Are you saying I can login to the mastodon app with my lemmy.world credentials? My (possibly wrong) impression is that the "style" of content on each is sufficiently different to warrant different accounts & apps.
Tried this with Chrome, Brave and Duck... All three just spin trying to login. 🤷♂️
