  • Yes, but that was never the truth, it was a lie created by companies marketing a product. A big difference between now and the then is we have access to the vast majority of human knowledge in our pocket. Much easier become informed on a subject now than in the past. Some people just lack the skills to do so, or choose not to and live in a fantasy.

  • A well informed and well educated population. What is truth and what’s misinformation isn’t really a matter of opinion. There’s reality and there’s fantasy, some people just prefer the latter. The government and myself don’t control the flow of information.

  • Free speech is about being able to criticise a government without fear of reprisal. It’s not a free ticket to spread misinformation, incite violence/hate or unjustly defame a person. Your assertion that free speech must be absolute or it will lead to society where people are executed for criticising government is a complete fantasy. No country has absolute free speech, not even the USA, as much as some citizens like to believe they do.

  • [HN] Run Firefox on ChromeOS
  • I tried this about a year ago. It was noticeably slower than the native chrome browser also a bit of a pain to manage downloaded files. Still pretty handy to be able to run Linux applications on ChromeOS. I used libre office quite successfully for a time.

  • New trolleys at Dickson Woolworths
  • Yeah, if their trolley fleet was due for an upgrade perhaps it would make sense. I do wonder how durable the plastic trolleys are long term being mistreated and left out in the elements.

  • High school boys are trending conservative
  • I can also relate, a classic libertarian utopia sounds great until you realise poor people exist. I think a lot of individuals are just afraid of personal growth because it often means admitting you were wrong.

  • NSW police use force against Indigenous Australians at drastically disproportionate levels, data shows
  • Im speaking anecdotally, but as a law abiding citizen, none of my interactions with NSW police have been a positive experience. I would imagine individuals from other social/cultural backgrounds experience far worse treatment. IMO NSW police either needs a massive cultural shift (unlikely) or needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

  • Big W removes sex education book from shelves after staff members abused
  • The SDA are known to be extremely socially conservative, having donated to campaigns against same sex marriage and anti-abolition. I suspect what the original comment is trying to say is they would likely approve of the customers actions.

  • Robo-debt royal commission ends in criminal referrals
  • I don’t think it’s a culture war bullshit to point out one party is systemically corrupt compared to the other, it’s just the reality. Fact is not all MPs and public servants are corrupt. The majority do the right thing and want to serve the public. To say they are all the same is just plain, flat out ignorant. I do hope those responsible are held to account. I hope this will give at least some closure to the victims. Give it time the report was only just released.

  • Robo-debt royal commission ends in criminal referrals
  • This royal commission is a prime example that ALP and the coalition are not the same. That phrase is just propaganda pushed by corrupt politicians (predominantly Libs/Nat) to justify and deflect their own actions.
