  • Went on a west coast road trip last summer and started the audio book in the car to see if my kids, 11 & 8 at the time, would be into it. They loved it so much it was pretty much all we listened to for a week. We got trough two and a half books before getting home.

The first three books are really great, and some of the best world building ever. The book is wonderful first person where you get to be in the characters head while the political games-manship plays out. You really understand where character motivation is coming from, probably the biggest difference from the movies.

  • Speaking of controllers: What's your favorite WEIRD controller?
  • Not super weird in the grand scheme of things but I played the shit out of FFXI using this controller and when my friends found out I was using this they were astounded at my typing speed. This was back in the era of texting with a number pad so thumb typing wasn't as prevalent as it is today.

  • Biden turns to family on his path forward after his disastrous debate: 'It's a mess'
  • On healthcare: removing the profit incentives of private health insurance drives down costs as well as frees up money to pay for universal coverage. It's not free Healthcare and has never been referred to as such unless people are debating in bad faith. He wrote the Medicare for All bill and just because you aren't aware of the details doesn't mean Sanders didn't have them.

On housing: again calling it free housing is a disingenuous bait. His housing policy had so many facets that even if only half his proposals were put into place, it would do wonders to improve the situation for millions of Americans. Federal funding for expanding Community Land Trusts (if you don't know what CLTs are you should look it up), combat gentrification/exclusionary zoning/segregation/speculation, expand the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund a fund that he was responsible for and fought for 15 years to become the first new federal affordable housing program funded in several decades, tenant protections like New York's right to counsel that was created in 2017, which saw their eviction rates drop five times faster than comparable areas. God damn man I could keep going but if I haven't made my point why waste the effort.

All of this could easily be paid by taxing the wealthy and reducing military spending. Would that be a problem for you?

  • Rail workers do not have the proper time to fully inspect cars and arrange them in the proper order due to understaffing and the high volume created by maximized rail schedules that prioritize profits over safety.

That's a huge reason why rail workers wanted to go on strike before there was bipartisan cooperation led by Biden to take away their labor rights.

  • Well, looking beyond one local election might help.

You don't quite understand what I am referencing if you think when I talk of recuperation that I am just referencing one election. Black Lives Matter is the biggest lightning rod that was very obviously recuperated in order to diminish it's radical politics, MLK was literally assassinated when his politics got too radical and threatening of the status quo and then his legacy was recuperated, even the New Deal was recuperation of the strongest labor movement because of it's deep socialist roots.

These are long standing ongoing problems with our political system and those that maintain it's power.

  • If you saw unfortunate result because you put a check mark next to a D and expected something miraculous to happen, maybe you should start looking into the candidates instead of their party more often.

WA state has top two elections so the majority of the time it's vote big D or little d. We also have statewide vote by mail so every election, primaries included, you can site down and research candidates as you mark off the ballot sheet, it's one of the few times I enjoy a glass of wine as I take my time with it as it takes up an entire evening.

Any other misconceptions I can clear up for you?

I don't see progress happening through the ballot box, increasingly I see more and more conservative liberals winning elections. And the progressives I once had hope for when they were first elected become more and more compromised as they try to work within the democratic party.

FYI I downvoted you because you whined about your downvotes. Just thought you should know.

Just as funny, but more so because you read commentary as complaining.

  • Dance Dance Revolution
  • Right but none of what you said answers the question: What kind of incremental change can I expect to really see when that is how the party at large operates?

When true change is threatened it is dealt with in two ways, recuperation or rejection. Anything else is not change that threatens the systems of power and is allowed to be squabbled over.

    [Deck Tech] Iden Pure Control

This is the deck I am currently most excited about. I jumped on Thrawn Vigilance and am waiting for the last of those cards to arrive but this Iden creature light list plays to my favorite aspect of control, blanking opponents interaction.

The main wincon is Vigilance and milling them out. All the removal in the deck means you'll be gaining lots of life off Iden each game, and flipping her is less of a priority than something you can plan for the right time.

It does play some weaker cards like Repair & Restock but they are easy targets for resourcing early and basically free value later in the game.

This is a great competitive control list that hits aggro and midrange currently dominant in the meta. Don't bring this to a kitchen table, cherish a friend that plays SWU with you.

For all the great things they have to say about the game their scoring is heavily impacted by being a channel for board games. I agree with pretty much everything they have to say, except the art has really grown on me and I am glad they went in a different direction from previous SW card games. The art feels as fresh as the gameplay.

And the gameplay is extremely good. FFG has announced that they have 3 additional sets already printed and an additional 6 ready to go. On top of that the tournament support makes organized play a priority for the game which I love as from what I can see WotC has been dropping that ball more and more as Arena has become more of their focus.

Have you played the game? Are you interested?

    [Deck Tech] Leia's Rebel Cause

This deck is a great entry point into the game. It's incredibly aggressive, highly synergistic, and relatively cheap to build with the only 4 cards (12 for playsets) that will hurt your wallet. Currently Sabin Command is the aggro deck of choice in the meta, but Leia has a huge leg up over that build in the form of action economy.

If you are coming from Magic this concept of action economy is something unique to SWU as there isn't instant speed interaction. Each player takes an action, goes back and forth throughout the turn and the first player to finish their plans for that turn then takes initiative in order to be first on the following turn. Leia's ability to attack with two rebels in one action not only prevents your opponent from interacting with a unit before damage is dealt in a turn, but also helps ensure you get initiative almost every time. All units in this deck have the rebel type. The big swing in the deck is playing Rebel Assault on Leia allowing you to attack with three units in one action!

So their is the rebel synergy but there is a secondary synergy that limited deck building choices, which was For A Cause I Believe In and running 100% heroic aspect cards. This card will hit for 4 damage every time, while setting up your next draw. Incredible value and reach to finish out games.

U-Wing Reinforcement is your late game refill, and can even hit Fleet Lieutenant allowing you to attack in the same action.

Playing against this deck was incredibly frustrating as even when I had interaction I barely ever had initiative to prevent the unit from doing damage in the turn, and if I used my interaction on a unit that hadn't attacked yet to try and stop the bleeding I wasn't going to target the biggest threat on the board. There was even a turn when I was forced to take initiative way before I had used all my resources and units just to try and get on top of the next turn.

I haven't dealt with sideboarding yet, but I would probably look to having some space units to shift into, Karabast for interaction, as well as Guerilla Attack Pod for late game reach.
