What are pro US believes?
  • There is not a single “Pro US” belief. I would say most people on both sides of the political spectrum truly believe they are “Pro US.” Everyone has a different perspective on what is best for the country, and it really depends on what part of that country you’re from and what your priorities are.

In this context, I’m really not sure. Perhaps they meant they prioritizing American users? Perhaps they meant prioritizing the US economy on the global stage? I’m really not sure.

In any case, we are happy to have you here!

  • First Unionized Arizona Charter School Wins Big Gains in Bargaining First Contract
  • It’s about taking funds out of the entire system of public’s schools. First of all, I’m not comfortable with my tax dollars going to a private, for profit, institution instead of benefitting a system for everyone. Second, what do you think would happen if every child went to a different school district, especially in an underprivileged area? The underprivileged school, which is likely already dysfunctional in AZ, gets defunded. Students left there, who perhaps do not have an attentive guardian are stuck with an underfunded, extremely poor quality of education.

Idk about other states, but in the case of AZ, school choice is not working. The schools are getting worse.

I know what you’re talking about NY and red for Ed. Look, I don’t really like how unions works in this country. I do think public school teachers should be well paid and well incentivized. They are teaching the next generation after all.

Regardless of your opinion of what they should be paid, and how dysfunctional it may be, the NY public school system is SO much better than the one in AZ. I urge you to look up some articles on the topic. For example, teachers don’t even need a college degree in AZ! Based on my experience, the worst schools in NY are at least comparable, if not better than the best schools in AZ. I also do not believe public schools have a monopoly on education. There are still many very successful private schools in NY and many people send their kids their if they have the money. IMO, this is how it should be.

  • First Unionized Arizona Charter School Wins Big Gains in Bargaining First Contract
  • “School choice” takes money out of school districts, and in this case, out of the public school system entirely. This is harmful to everyone, but it hits the worst in underprivileged districts as the little money that was previously allocated to that school is going to a private institution. Essentially, it effectively defunds public schools, which creates an entire list of other problems, which are very apparent in the AZ public school system. Hence, it’s consistently ranked one of, if not the worst public school systems in the entire country.

It seems pretty obvious to me, the school system is already facing so many problems, many of which are manufactured by politicians who are invested in private schools like basis, disincentivizing parents sending kids to public schools, which in turn further defunds them.

I don’t blame parents for sending kids to “charter” schools; it’s not their fault the public education system is literally the worst. If I had the choice and I needed to stay in the state of AZ, I would probably do the same.

Idk what “union protectionism” is, the voucher system and defunding public schools has little to nothing to do with unions.

  • Musk plans Supreme Court appeal after losing bid to terminate SEC settlement
  • What does he think is going to happen if he gets out of the settlement? The evidence seems pretty damning. If he was found guilty he would probably have to pay massive fines and likely devalue his shares in Tesla and his overall net worth.

  • Distro suggestions?
  • Classic arch Linux is the way to go imo. If you need something a little more turn key, I would go with linux mint Debian edition! Debian was the first distro I ever used, an I think if you feel at home there, linux mint Debian edition might be what you’re looking for.

  • Which Google Chrome Extensions are essential?
  • Get off Chrome. It might be used by most, but it collects so much information and Google is neutering ad blockers. Not to mention that not using Firefox contributes to the monoculture of webkit and blink, which has a long list of problems. Overall, Firefox is better for users and the web overall.

  • Who are your "must follows" on Mastodon?
  • Definitely Taylor Lorenz. She’s almost always on trending, but she’s a journalist always posting about twitter and musk’s controversies, very interesting content.

We Distribute is kind of like a publication about the fediverse. Great content.

Linus Torvalds. This one’s pretty obvious.

But I’m still looking too! If you’re into tech, you will almost definitely find something for you on mastodon, especially free software. Good luck!

  • Migrating to grapheneos.

I’m thinking of migrating to grapheneos from ios, what are some things that I should be aware of? Keep in mind, I haven’t used android in about 3 or 4 years and have basically been using an iPhone since the 3GS. Any heads up or tips would be helpful. I’m just really tired of apples new business model and current executives, and am trying to move to all free software. Thanks in advanced.

    Linux Laptop for (student) programmer
  • It all depends and your budget and priorities. If you care about coreboot and Intel ME, go with system76 or an old thinkpad. Otherwise, Dell latitudes and new thinkpads are sufficient. Based on your description, I think system76 would be the way to go, but you might also want to check out a thinkpad p52.

  • To fellow penguins, What is your distro?
  • Arch and Debian. In the future I’ll probably move to something without systemd, but for now this is what I use. I don’t understand why so many people use Ubuntu and even fedora now with this REHL controversy. Why would choose to use a corporate distro when others are also just as good? Doesn’t that negate the purpose of using linux and free software in the first place? (This applies to popos, linux mint Ubuntu, and all those other Ubuntu OSes)

  • PineTab Stylus

I was wondering if there is support for active styluses on the pinetab. I’m looking for an arm linux tablet with support for styluses for taking notes, watching videos and browsing the internet. Any suggestion would be great!
