  • I think my server lemmy.world would qualify :-)

  • My instance allows rss feeds mastodon.world

  • Well running them all is easy, I mainly use Docker for running them, which makes it easy. I just hope all platforms will be developed to maturity, and they will all follow the activitypub standards so they can communicate with each other. Now, some platforms implement features a bit differently from eachother.

I didn't make mastodon.world grow so much, it just happened to me. Mainly thanks to mr. Musk. Details on that are here: https://blog.mastodon.world/and-then-november-happened

  • No, I have nu clue about that yet. I'll monitor how Lemmy behaves and try to scale. Maybe after a while I can say something about it.

  • Currently a 2 cpu 4GB VPS at Hetzner, costing 5 EUR per month. With a storage volume of also 5 per month. I am monitoring this and will scale when needed. For mastodon.world we scaled it to a dedicated server with 32 cores and 256GB so we can go a long way.

  • OK, I'd say: create it! :-)

  • For now this is peanuts. If it might grow a lot, I can use some of the mastodon.world donations or setup a new Patreon.

  • What name did you try to create? Did you also add images?

  • Hmm I think those issues should be gone, do you see them if you give it a few minutes? Maybe it needs time to fetch everything?

  • You're welcome.. I've been using computers for around 40 years now, and love trying out new software. That evolved in trying out self-hosted software.. even into self-hosting nearly everything. I'm reverting some of that at the moment, don't want to self-host family stuff anymore because of continuity, but the rest I keep installing and trying everyting.. :-)

  • Nice, thanks! (I use their wallpaper app on my Mac)

  • At the moment, I run lemmy.world using the funding of mastodon.world. If Lemmy.world might grow and need a dedicated server, I'll try to raise funds for it separately (or create a larger .world fundraiser as I have other instances as well)

  • Lemmy.world is a new server, accepting signups. You're welcome there.

  • When creating a community, it would be nice if you also upload an icon and banner. Please make sure you don't use copyrighted images but instead create your own or look for rights-free material.

  • Thank you for the research. I will take this up with the Lemmy devs.

  • You can create communities yourself if you like!

  • Yes, I fixed an issue, now subscribing seems to work.

  • I don't know how communities are added. Is it automatically discovered or only when searched or viewed by users? The search should be much better now I fixed an nginx issue. When I search for Mastodon I get loads of results, including the community at lemmy.ml. But searching by community name !mastodon@lemmy.ml doesn't work. Sometimes it works when you click search a few times, sometimes not at all.

I'll discuss that with the Lemmy admin Matrix channel later, now it's time for bed..

  • I mainly use HA for monitoring, have only 1 automation which turns on a heating-wire when outside temp drops below 3C.
