It does matter. In the uk being vegan is a protected trait and they have a legal obligation to not force you to change your morals. unlike what others have said vegetarian isn't a protected trait and gets less protection.

it's pretty crazy that no one in this thread has mentioned that going vegan would have a larger impact.
So crazy that they just get a small fine for such large scale environmental damage. There should be prison sentences!
It's such an afront to democracy that the ruling party was allowed to change the years they are in power from 4 to 5. We would have had that election by now...
So whilst you are right that transport does create lots of emissions it is still only a small percentage of the total. Any localy produced meats would have a higher footprint than legumes from anywhere. A localy based food system would be great but to get that we would need mass land ownership reform.
