Who would win?
  • I imagine the first cube would get some drones on the Death Star before being destroyed. It would take some time to assimilate the whole thing, so the Death Star might be able to take a few more cubes before being too far gone, but my guess is the first (or maybe second if the Death Star was lucky) cube would be the end of it.

  • Undecided voters say they now support Joe Biden after debate
  • People also seem to be completely brushing off him having a cold like it was just some campaign lie. To me that’s exactly what he looked like: completely out of it from being sick. I get like that when I’m ill and I’m not even half his age. Given his campaign events and state of the union have not been the same it seems pretty clear to me that it wasn’t simply him being old unless I’m missing something.

  • ‘I am not made for war’: the men fleeing Ukraine to evade conscription
  • There have been times in my life when I would have fled, and times in my life when I would have fought. Never for the idea of country, but certainly for the people in the country. I’m a middle aged American woman and having no family anymore, I have considered fighting for the families of Ukraine. Though not too seriously and I don’t even know if they’d take me

  • What's currently the 'smartest' language model?
  • What language are you programming in? In swift I have found all models (including sonnet) next to useless. Tells me something wrong almost every question i ask, has made up macros and apis, etc.

For English I have found Claude models slightly better than the GPT 4 subscription I used to have. For anything in multiple (human, not programming) languages, gpt has seemed best for me.

  • Was it a good thing that SNW explicitly said the Federation is socialist?
  • True for most of the franchise, but the ferengi are eventually. Also, I’m not sure if the federation prevents member worlds from continuing to have their own internal economies that could be market based. My guess is that they don’t and the ferengi will continue to use money for a long time.

  • Jon Stewart slams corporations taking advantage of Pride
  • Seriously. The equal buns made me groan, but growing up it was so marginalized that I’m still just happy for acceptance and visibility. Plus, there’s still lots of kids growing up with families who aren’t accepting or in areas like that and seeing these ads can help, even if pandering.

  • Apple might reveal a new “Passwords” app next week
  • Oh damn, thanks for letting me know. I got the alert saying they were in settings when I opened up keychain and assumed they were permanently moved not like “hey you can also find them there”. Great news, I much prefer the keychain app.

  • Apple might reveal a new “Passwords” app next week
  • Seems off to me. On Mac they abandoned the standalone keychain app in favor of the settings app just last year (IIRC). Why would they turn around and go in the opposite direction so soon after that?

  • "I don't appreciate you Brits using/changing our language without consent"
  • Aluminum is one where I think Americans have it correct. The British chemist who isolated it wanted to call it alumium, but it didn’t fit with the Latin-derived naming schemes of elements used at the time. Someone else suggested “aluminium”, where as the guy who isolated it went with “Aluminum”. So I say we stick with aluminum, or go to alumium cuz it sounds cool.
