  • "How to win friends and influence people" is a great book. I can also recommend How to Talk to Anyone: "92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships" by Leil Lowndes

  • Reading books about how to behave in social settings was very effective in reducing my social anxiety

  • So that I be able to use Gnome Parental Control to regulate my self. Especially in the way of bedtime enforcement

  • So that you understand the point.

If I would be on Windows, I would ask for a Windows solution

  • In my school the teacher locked them under the desk and brought them to the Principal's office after class.

I never heard that any phone got stolen

  • Did the teachers stole the phones or how did that even happen? 💀

  • Ok,

My plan was just to make a "admin" user that has admin and sudo rights and then remove admin/sudo from my main user.

  • as the kids just take them out as soon as the teacher turns their back

When I was in school the teacher's were seizing the phone if they caught you with it in class and sometimes require your parents to pick it up after school

  • You can also cat /etc/groups to see what groups a user has been added to, maybe something was preventing that file being updated?

Is there a difference to group [Username] ?

Do you think that its necesary for me to fix this, or could I just accept that its that way and I need to reboot if I change permissions?

  • I never blamed Linux for it, I would have the same problem with Windows or MacOS.

But since I use Linux, I ask for a solution that works on Linux

  • I had problems with eye contact for a long time, but for some reason it stopped being a problem arround the age of 15-16 and when I read in a social skills book's (yes I need manuals for social interactions) that eye contact is important, I started to force my self into eye contact.

Maybe this has also something to do with people telling me that they find my eyes beautiful, but I don't know

  • Psychologically the carrot is better than the stick, meaning you’ll keep fighting the lock-out mechanism, eventually resenting it and removing it.

The logout mechanism just needs to though me out of my way and take at least 5 minutes (better more) to circumvent, this will probably be enough for me to do the right thing.

Having an alert to remind you that you wanted to stop will be more pursuasive. (I have a “go to bed” alarm with a gentle, gradually increasing volume on my phone)

I tried this for many times, but ended up just dismising the alarms because my will is weak

  • Can someone say me if I can let it be that way if I'm ok with rebooting for sudo permission changes or if its necessary to fix this?

  • Would this then apply to all systemd distributions?

  • I tried this with newgrp wheel but still the new user don't update its privileges

  • I tried logging in and out multiple times, for the case that user switching doesn't count as re-login.

  • Linux Questions @lemmy.zip

Linux changing sudo/admin status requires restart?

  • I do them with Linux, why is this so hard to understand?

  • As I only use sudo to update my system, I could use a user that doesn't has sudo access and set up some a cron job to do updates once a day. And flatpak instalation and updating doesn't require sudo at all

  • Not necessary the operating system it self, but the things I do with Linux, like researching stuff, enganging in discussion's and playing games, are addictive for me
