I tagged VioneT bc I thought dev has already so much on their plate atm with the update and mod still can decide to tag dev if they can't solve it alone 😅
I agree with Mack2. Also I'd like to ask, what makes you think "it looks like Dev is interested in more users rather than less."? Maybe it's not about how many users. Maybe it's about providing a certain service (free, uncensored, easy to access, open source) for no matter how many or few users want to use it. Afaik this combination of features is unique.
The most hilarious thing for me is that OP called dev a non-professional and a noob. I mean, I don't know how to do coding, but I have enough common sense to be able to imagine the enormous level of skill and determination building a site like this needs.
And the audacity to demand spamming dev... reminds me of those happy old times where villagers grabbed forks and torches to go after that one woman who knew about healing herbs and helped other women give birth without dying, just because that one cow died of age.
Oh, also, to put it very simple: new model takes space, and space costs money. But the old model takes space, too, even when it's less. So running both takes much, much more space and much, much more money.
Because it didn't fail yet, it's still a work in progress. And there were a LOT of people who complained about the old model. I suggest you take a look at the perchance commutinty on reddit, there are a lot more people than here, but even on lemmy you can see it when you take a closer look, for example:
https://lemmy.world/post/36459439
atm, 3 up votes, 7 down votes.
People do like the new model when it doesn't have hiccups due to finetuning the settings.
About letting people switch, I already mentioned it in a much older post: dev would have to set up the infrastructure first, which would probably take a lot of time. Maybe dev rather use this extra time to work on the new model. After all, it's already almost 2 months and you can see how people get impatient bc they don't understand how much workload this is for a single person.
As for the ads, dev deliberately chose to make them as minimal as possible to make it as user-friendly as possible. If ads get more invasive, people start to use adblock, too. IMO, perchance is a gift by dev to us, and maybe dev even takes pride in giving it completely free. That's the only explanation I can imagine why dev doesn't take donations, bc many people mentioned they'd love to. But even with such a big heart, dev faces limits in resources as time and money (and probably energy), that's why we don't get the old model.
For me, too. but I'm more into t2t. I've basically started from zero with no knowledge whatsoever, but I've already learned so much about ai behaviour and surprisingly about myself. I hope some day I have the energy to try to understand coding a little bit, but atm, that's still final boss level for me 😅
And none of them even think to consider that dev could just easily decide to TAKE THE WHOLE SITE DOWN FOREVER because of ungrateful spoilt kids who want everything, for free, in perfect condition, right now, and don't stop bitching about it.
Second this. There's already a post on reddit from someone who tried (and only locally!). OP, tell us when you're done! Let's see how long it takes YOU to get a perfect working ai with no bugs or quirks. (Spoiler: It won't happen, ever, because every model has quirks and phrases it often falls back on.)
Maybe see it like your doc being on vacation. If there's a serious issue, you need to find a substitute, otherwise you need to wait. It might not be perfect, but once the doc comes back, they are (hopefully) better than before.
It probably will take more time, days, weeks, mabey even months, idk much about programming. But complaining right now always seems to me like shouting at a surgeon mid-surgery why there's so much blood.
That's why I said when it works once in a while. There are certain hours where I think dev is working on the model constantly (like right now) and yes, then it's dumb af. But like... uh... I don't know, like 10 hours ago or so, it worked perfectly fine for me. I was able to have a real flow of back-and-forth messages for the 10 mins I used it, without much rerolling or needing to prompt real-life mechanics like "char can't see what user does while texting" (from across the city)
Those 10 mins I got more story done than in two hours yesterday. And this wasn't the first time, that's why I think dev might works on it on certain more or less fixed times.
Yeah, depending on the model. If I'm right, deepseek's training (and the accessible info) stopped '23 or '24. Deepseek pretty sure was tested as new model (based on Cloe's gatekeeping about chinese politics and the level of violence), but idk if dev kept and tweaked it until it was reasonable or changed the model.
I just asked Chloe, 2 of 4 times were future dates, the other two times she said 2024.
Good luck, I hope you're successful! I also like the new model for rp (when it works properly once in a while), it's much smarter and doesn't need me to hold it's hand for every little detail. I immediately notice the difference. old model often doesn't understand chars can't know what happens in places far away unless there is some kind of stable connection. My user isn't constantly with the char 24/7, so that irked me quite a bit. New model knew without prompt. <3
The AI is getting updated to a newer model. It will take some time before it finishes (bc it's only one person who works on it in their free time) and can cause very weird stuff. Also, the new model is more sensitive so the writing instructions, which had to be overexaggerated for the old model, now are causing weird behaviour. e.g. if you copied&pasted custom writing style prompts, there's one refering to "...extremely toxic behaviour..." etc. (Roleplay 1&2 might base on them, too, I think?)
