Scott Pelley of ’60 Minutes’ accuses CBS News head Bari Weiss of ‘murdering’ the show, report says

  • So your saying news is whatever you personally decide has enough substance, and everything else is a non-event or gossip by default. That's not a definition though, that's just you declaring yourself the final authority on what other people are allowed to consider newsworthy. And it's not your community, so none of that matters.

Celebrity coverage has been reported as news for decades precisely because large numbers of people care about it. AP News reports on celeb news too. Your opinion that these two are empty and irrelevant doesn't magically turn reported public events into non-events. It just means you don't like them. :)

  • News isn't defined by whether it meets your personal standard of substance. If it were, then most sports coverage, local human interest stories, and half of political reporting would also fail your test and become "gossip" according to you. lol

These two being irrelevant to you doesn't change the fact that they were in public, people reported on it, and people clicked on it. That's how news has worked for a long time. Popularity and coverage make something newsworthy to a segment of the public, whether you like the segment or not.

Your take on pop culture being empty is just taste. It doesn't magically convert reported events into non-news. So have you written your strongly-worded letter to the orginal publisher yet?

  • It doesn’t matter if it’s factual, that does not make something news.

But it is news. People reported on it. It's just not the news you like.

This content is not even gossip at its middling.

Yet here you are, making comment after comment. LMAO

  • But it's a factual news article. It was reported on. It's news, not gossip. Just because YOU find something irrelevant, doesn't make it not news.Thank you!

And feel free to post your own news if you are unhappy with what I post. Better yet, create your own community. Be the change you wanna see. I have total faith that you are gonna do great. I mean, how can it not be awesome if you do it? You are so friendly and outgoing!

  • It's not gossip though, it's news. They are very popular and they did cozy up at an intimate dinner in Tokyo. People saw them there. People photographed them there. People reported on it.

What in the article do you feel is untrue? Are you going to use your charming personality to write a strongly written letter to the author to let them know how you feel? I'm sure you will be able to make lots of positive change doing that.

Also, thanks for interacting so much. That drives up the viewership of the community. So thank you for that! :)

  • Right? I know I personally just have one do it. But can ya imagine being able to afford two? That'd be sweet!

  • It's not gossip though, it's news. Bethenny Frankel went to a Sports Illustrated runway function in Miami and it was reported on. Lots of people were there. Lots of people reported on it. She did have two spray tanners. She did walk in the event. It was reported on.

None of that is gossip. If you feel the article is inaccurate, please send an email to the original publishers and writers who wrote the article. I'm sure you can create lots of change with the friendly attitude you have shown me so far. :)

  • They are some of the hottest celebs right now. So yeah, news. I know that annoys you, but oh well.

Are you going to write a strongly-worded letter to the news org and the author of the article to tell them your thoughts? I'm quite sure with your jolly good nature that you could change their minds. :)

  • oh, this is like a shitty joke news community?

What? No. Bethenny Frankel did a Sports Illustrated Swim runway function in Miami and it was reported on. Lots of people were there. Lots of people reported on it.

Just because YOU don't like something, doesn't mean it's not news. Feel free to post your own articles, and/or start your own community, and/or block me, and/or block this community. I don't have to adjust my community to fit YOUR tastes.

You are totally free to go off and do your own thing and add content to Lemmy. Thanks!

  • It is news. A celebrity did a Sports Illustrated Swim runway function in Miami and it was reported on. Lots of people were there. Lots of people reported on it.

What do you think news is? Please read sidebar. Celeb news is allowed in this community.

  • So you think the news org, AP News, is guilty of anti-worker propaganda?! Seriously?! lolololololol

    Fucking Lemmy, man... 🤣

  • Maybe my adblocker stops it? I go there fine and they don't have, nor have they asked for, my email.

  • Yep, and I don't know how/why that hasn't been done before now.

  • Save you a click.

Not really, because the article gives more details. You just summarized the headline, not the article. But yeah, I grew up being talked to about sleeping sickness too! I always wondered why, cuz hey, I get to sleep more? cool! lol

  • The "fun jobs" were always rare though. The vast majority of of people in the world work at jobs that aren't fun. It's always been that way.

  • Body with no chemicals, burried, and tree planted on the spot would be ideal for me too.
