I'm kind of a bot myself, I guess?
  • Try again 8x. Nine successful answers later, "we've detected unusual traffic from your IP, thanks for the answers sucker"

  • Who’s old enough to recognize this DOS game?
  • There's a photo of a tank game.

  • Are most of you using Torrents or Usenet?
  • I only ever used Usenet back in the day when my college threatened to shut off my internet if there was any more p2p traffic.

  • How does the popularity of Lemmy.world compare to kbin.social?
  • I've searched for Lemmy world communities on kbin and came up dry. There's a problem of communication between the sites.

  • Break like the wind
  • You wear windbreakers, I break wind.

    We are not the same.

  • What is a childish thing you still fully enjoy as an adult?
  • I enjoy shirking my responsibilities and doing nothing, if I can help it.

  • Gas stoves pollute homes with benzene, which is linked to cancer
  • The bottom of this EPA Document says that following the lifetimeimita of benzene exposure will result in a likelihood of developing cancer at 1 in a million chances.

The article didn't mention exposure limits, but I would think that stovetop production of benzene is far less than industrial sources of exposure such as the oil industry or on tankers, that the federal limits were created for.

  • TIL you can set Jerboa as default for opening links to your instances, so you don't leave the app
  • Remembering the community, and searching it on lemmy.world proper, then refreshing the app lol

  • I feel like posts need to age quicker
  • Yep. On plebbit you were able to actively hide certain posts. I would like posts to remain available on communities I car about.

  • Sol Reader is a VR headset exclusively for reading books
  • Even while lit, e-ink appears different than a backlit screen. Being front lit, it does still mimic a book being lit by a light. Eye fatigue is a big talking point when considering backlit vs frontlit displays.

  • Starfield's already the top seller
  • Whats it called when you give money away with no return? In this case, the loan is re-payed when they allow you to download the game you bought months prior.

  • Starfield's already the top seller
  • Preordering is just giving a multimillion dollar company a free loan of your own money.

  • The participants had to be on some medication, right? A sheet of aluminum coiled into a Fibonacci curve thus making a time portal seems... generous

  • Redditors migration is impossible if they're recommended hundreds of alternatives (see link)
  • It's the same thing with multiple instances now. The stronger and more popular will inevitably survive. I'm putting my eggs in the Lemmy basket, but other alternatives might end up being better. And if that is realized, then I fully intend to switch again.

  • Alt-History material on civilizations

Does anyone have any recommendations for material discussing Atlantis, or similar "lost" civilizations?

I know of Atlantis by Donnely. And, The Story of Atlantis by W. Scott Elliot though I haven't personally read this one.

In the same vein, do you have any favorite video channels that discuss these topics? I know of MrMythos on YT and his series discussing Atlantis as well as Inner Earth.
