  • To be fair, neither runs well on my DS916+. I use the NAS for storage and have a laptop next to it as a Linux server with Docker containers.

  • People have all kinds of intrusive thoughts, and it's normal. It's just the brain idling about possibilities and outcomes.

  • I am a worker ant in a colony of ten thousand ants. There is no chance in hell that my voice will be heard. On the contrary: if I make too much noise, I will be purged.

It's not my circus. If corpo wants to run crappy bloatware (Win11) then that's on them. And they do. Shrug.

  • You are thinking from a technical point of view. I agree there, but this is not about "can you?"

Corporations don't care about workers. They care about security and legal stuff. So you will use their officially sanctioned OS and tools, or you will be fired for violating their policies. There's no arguing that.

Small businesses don't have such policies, and workers have freedoms. That's where you can do these things. But big organisations are lost to us. Accept or leave.

  • Every office job ever runs on Windows & Office. Fact of life, cannot change it.

Maybe excluding the smallest businesses where the people are actually still human.

  • Why?

    Jump
  • "here" is not a useful descriptor in that sentence.

  • This image is hilariously unhelpful 😂 but we can work it out.

  • "rich elites" don't do the actual work. That's what I mean. There must be hordes of non-rich non-elites doing that work. And surely they can't all be magats.

  • What I don't understand is that "the media" is staffed by ordinary people that are suffering as much as everyone else. Every single one of these organisations has the option to disagree, but nobody does. It's impossible that they are all staffed only by by magats - why doesn't anything happen against this fascism?

  • I see no possibility of this going wrong. /s

  • streaming

    in order

What's the news here? The whole fucking point of streaming is that I can play what I want, when I want it.

  • Yes, but oddly, if it goes by ship it's car-go and if it's by car it's ship-ment 🤷

  • Nothing spectacular.

Git, Paperless, UniFi Controller, Pihole, Mattermost chat, Immich, Home Assistant, Frigate, Syncthing, Hoarder. Just stuff for myself, my home, and my friends. And 🏴‍☠️

    And you?

  • Valid! I also tinker with selfhosting using Docker containers, didn't think of firewalls the same way. Thank you.

  • This is perfectly valid! I to a lot of tinkering with selfhosting using Docker containers, and I have learned a ton from that. I feel a bit silly that I didn't make the connection with firewalls - just tinkering for fun!

  • Same. What's the deal with having elaborate firewall stuff for a normal family home anyway?

If the built in stuff isn't good enough then 99.9% of households would be compromised a long time ago already.

  • That solves distribution but still leaves discoverability.

  • Well said! It's a corpo but it's giving us so much.
