  • shitty sequel

I've heard a fair bit of hate against the sequel, could I ask why you dislike it? I've always thought of it as effectively a graphically updated version of the first game

  • I didn't just brick my Linux install in under a day. I was actually practicing a cyber attack against a secure system that successfully compromised all functionality...

But yes I did also just brick my Linux install in under a day

  • If we think of production as costing land, labour and capital, then more efficient methods of production would likely swap labour for capital. In that case then we just tax capital growth like we're doing now (Only properly, like without the loopholes). No need to complicate it past that

  • A nice thing about Lemmy's lower population than Reddit

On Reddit I generally didn't read attached articles. I'd developed a pretty good intuition where the article title, website and top comments could tell me all I needed to know (And reading the source normally confirmed this)

On Lemmy the smaller numbers of comments mean we need to engage with the content being discussed more directly, which is quite a nice change of pace for us Reddit converts.

Why I stopped arguing about the climate emergency and tried the silent treatment instead | Helena Echlin
  • Interesting read but I can't see this doing anything other than inciting mockery. The discussion on the environment is so developed that this sort of showmanship will only appeal to those that don't need their minds changing.

If it makes the author more comfortable and the apocalypse more vibey though I guess I'm down for it

  • Fuck Fireworks: An essay about why I believe they have no place in a 21st century celebration.
  • I'd agree with all points but (As a Brit if that makes a difference) still like fireworks. Bonfire night and the new year fireworks are both big events in the UK, but largely took the form of fewer, larger displays that community centres or councils run. As such most people can get to a celebration but the damage is localised.

I have unfortunately noticed that recently more people have been setting them off in their backyards so would support more restrictions on who can buy them.

  • continues the endless inflation

UBI would likely lead to a decrease in wages or at least a period of stagnation as it would be less important to employees. As far as I've heard long run it shouldn't hurt
