Vegans of Lemmy, would you eat lab-grown meat?
  • Still need to investigate the sustainability of it before I would try, but presently there's no produce on sale here. But I'm pretty used to dishes without meat by now, so there's no direct need. I suppose it would be more targeted towards current meateaters, hopefully they stop destroying life on the planet at some point.

  • Disaster is nearing. Mass displacement. Mass starvation. Mass death. It is all imminent. Do you understand?
  • We can currently choose between:

    • climate change causing drought, heat, rain, flooding and storms with hail or tornados;
    • biodiversity loss preventing pollinating our food and capturing carbon (see climate change);
    • nuclear war in a politically unstable world;
    • tyrannic forms of government threatening our freedom;
    • underpaid slave labour in a capitalistic society, also threatening our freedom;
    • no way to divert that incoming meteor;
    • business as usual causing the next pandemic;
    • more old than young people leading to less care and less work altogether;
    • AI taking over the world;
    • any mix of the above leading to a collapse of society. Feel free to expand.
  • Breathtaking colorized video from 1896 of around the world
  • What struck me most in this early footage is that everyone in it has definitely passed away by now. With later films you usually can't be sure. Makes you realise even more that the available time we have on this planet is quite limited.

  • The necessary technologies
  • Veganism is good for climate, biodiversity, health and animal welfare. We really don't need to eat animals or animal products to have good meal and live a happy life. The good thing is that humans are omnivores, with a free choice of what to eat. Please choose wisely, not only for your own mental and physical health, but also for others, living now as well as in years to come.

  • For people who switched to winter time last night, should we end this?
  • Sorry for the late reply, I just read yours, this app is still a bit of a mystery to me. My work allows for flexible working hours, so there's no problem there. But in the wake of a decision to stay with Summer Time year round I would suppose that the starting times of businesses and schools would be up for debate. Especially for schools, as these already presently do not lign up with the sleep cycles of students, they only match those of the teachers. It's funny how introduction of Summer Time has convinced through being confusing. When the plan would have been to ask everyone to come in one hour earlier during summer, a lot of people would have protested. By setting the clock one hour later it has gotten authority and nobody was sure which way the hour difference was supposed to go. Later or earlier? People are still not sure after all these years.

  • Maybe (HBO) Max Just Isn’t Worth It
  • They're still fairly cheap in Europe and I really looked forward on getting to see their content a couple of years back, but now it looks like most of it could just as easily be shown on another platform like Disney or Netflix. There's no real depth in most of it. I'll keep hanging on watching shows like Insecure, but I wonder whether I'll keep the account in future.

  • Seek relief
  • No expert, but my take on this is that medicines work because they resemble the chemicals your body already makes itself. Better not interfere with a finely balanced immune system in which pain is an essential signal for the body to cope with infections and injuries. It might be more comforting to take a pill against something but I'm afraid it messes up the immune system too much, better to avoid that as much as possible. Works fine for me.

  • Yamaha unveils new handlebar-less electric motorcycle concept — and it looks like it’s straight out of a sci-fi movie
  • A: Pizza delivery by driverless motorbike, sounds great! B: But then it gets stolen. A: They can just as easy put a GPS-tracker in there. B: Put it in a steel cage that blocks all electromagnetic signals. Sell the parts and scrap the rest. A: Your glass is mostly half-empty, isn't it? B: Probably. But I would like a calzone though. A: I'll order two then. Including security.
