  • The Bab el-Mandeb is a hugely important chokepoint in world trade, and moves around 30% of global oil supply through there, along with 30,000 ships per year.

It's closer to 15% of total global trade, which is huge and really only affects European trade. Between 1.7 to 4 million tons per day of cargo transits the strait, and it is an incredibly tight pinch point, the navigable part of the strait is only a few kilometers across. Ships are currently detouring around the horn of Africa, which adds 15 days to the journey. That's a lot of fuel being burned.

What's Going On With Shipping has had extensive coverage of the conflict over the past year or so, with some pretty deep insights as to what is really going on. If you're interested.

  • I think it's because they keep sinking commercial ships and firing missiles at Israel, no? They also shot missiles at Russian, Chinese, European, Panamanian, Japanese, Korean, and South American ships.

Why were bombing them now is because Trump's a dumbass and needs to distract everyone.

  • You would be surprised. There are a lot of fixed costs for building tiny homes, you have all of the appliances that need to be installed, trailer bed, plus framing, siding and roofing trades that need to happen.

Plus there is sitework, sewer, electrical water, and development fees.

Hopefully they got economies of scale to work here but they still can be a bit pricey.
