I feel like all fedi software has problematic devs, Calckey
  • I dunno about the code. But, they're definitely pushing their agenda here on Lemmy.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the only true negative aspect of Lemmy that I've noticed since I joined.

Everything here is pretty good. The users are mostly cool. Content is not high in quantity, yet, but it's decent quality.

Lemmy has one real, true problem, tankies. They're dishonest, they manipulate content, they brigade posts, they're a cancer. They have no home in legitimate link aggregation.

If it is true that they "built" Lemmy, it was only to get away from everyone who shunned them and forced them to find a safe place. And now they're mad that people who aren't deranged lunatics arrived in their safe place.

  • I feel like all fedi software has problematic devs, Calckey
  • Okay. Finally, after a month here, I'll bite.

Who said it was built by tankies? I'm not saying it wasn't. But, afaik, ActivityPub was developed by W3C.

Are they tankies? They don't strike me as tankies, but I've been wrong before. People keep saying the Fediverse was built by tankies, and I guess I'm missing some history, because as far as I can tell, there may have been some tankies, but it doesn't seem built by tankies.

Even now, Lemmygrad is small. They're annoying as fuck. And they're pervasive on Lemmy. But, it's not like there's a lot of them.

So, if anyone feels like bringing me up to speed on the history of the Fediverse, I'm extremely eager to learn.

  • Republicans are threatening to sabotage George W. Bush’s greatest accomplishment
  • I left Reddit for Lemmy a month ago.

The comments in politics communities around here do not live up to Reddit's yet. Close sometimes.

This comment is the first time I've actually laughed. Brilliant. I actually went at read the article just because of this comment. Cheers.

  • IMO The Best Thing about the Fediverse is...
  • Okay, fair enough. Although, honestly, I'm struggling to figure something out and maybe you know.

If Lemmy users all hated Reddit and Reddit users so much, why did they all go there and try to convince everyone from Reddit to come to Lemmy when the API debacle happened?

  • IMO The Best Thing about the Fediverse is...
  • Mass exodus from Reddit is because of API, not because the marijuana subreddit is called trees. You think the number of users skyrocketed the day API closed because people were mad about foodporn? No.

  • Florida's new Black history curriculum says "slaves developed skills" that could be used for "personal benefit"
  • I'm blown away that this finally sunk in with you! Congratulations! I was starting to believe you just weren't capable.

You missed one small detail though. That the very idea of the Fediverse is for people to come here. I suppose that's why all the Lemmy users came to Reddit and screamed "Join Lemmy!!!".

  • Florida's new Black history curriculum says "slaves developed skills" that could be used for "personal benefit"
  • Brother. This is disingenuous. I've explained, again, multiple times. This is nothing about Marxist leninists. That's not the issue here.

The issue is bad actors on Lemmy. This isn't that complicated. Surely, now, after all these comments, you have to have at least the smallest understanding of the difference. If you cannot admit that there's a difference between a political ideology and idiots manipulating a political and news aggregation site, then you and I will just have to part ways there.

  • Florida's new Black history curriculum says "slaves developed skills" that could be used for "personal benefit"
  • You're being disingenuous again. I've already laid it out multiple times. Why the hell would I follow them there? I dont give a shit that they exist and I didn't follow them here.

Also, as noted several times already, I know who they are. I know they've been here for years. I just don't care. I'm not sure why that's so tough for you to understand.

This place has promise. The structure is good. The app environment is good. There's some bright people here.

But, this place has a significant problem. Calling them Marxists is laughable. They're nothing more than trolls. There's no political ideology involved. Just chaos and make-believe. Lemmy will be better off without them, regardless of if they helped start it or not.

People / Communities on Mastodon and Lemmy

Leaving Reddit and Twitter, trying to find some sources in the Fediverse to keep up to speed with the invasion of Ukraine.

Anyone have recommendations for people on Mastodon or communities here on Lemmy that are reliable and up to date?
