  • The quote in question in reference to AIPAC:

Do not allow a foreign country, foreign agents, and another religion tell you about Charlie Kirk. And I hope a foreign country and foreign agents and another religion does not take over Christian Patriotic Turning Point USA.

You were so close MTG , if you just dropped the Christian nationalist shit I'd agree with you. I guess this is the best you're gonna get on the right, though, and most of the other right wingers are supporting Israel for other Christian anti-semetic reasons, so lesser of two evils, I guess

  • She's referring to AIPAC. She seems to think Charlie was opening up to allowing other perspectives on the issue of Palestine besides unequivocally supporting Israel before he was shot. Now she's afraid they will take control of tp usa and shut down any debate on the issue.

  • IMO, the algorithm is overhyped, and the secret to tik toks success is its scale. If you gave metas algorithm the same amount of data to train on and the same amount of content to recommend, it would be equally as addictive. It might suck at first but give it a couple months and people won't be able to tell the difference between the old algorithm and whatever oracle creates.

It's just like chatgpt, given the same set of public data any company with sufficient engineering and compute resources can make there own model that performs very similarly.

In an ideal world we'd have algorithmic choice, like in bluesky sort of, and we could actually compare different ones, but that would cut into the profits of the data monoplies.

  • It's sufficient to say there is an immediate profit motive to just fire the workers and pocket the surplus, I think.

That doesn't explain why they don't just do a three day work week and pay workers 1/2 of what they did before. Cost wise it would be the same and would make the same profit as firing half the workforce, but you'll almost never see companies reduce hours instead of head count.

They don't reduce hours because that means the person will probably get a second job. Now they're not the sole employer and the only thing keeping that person from poverty. This makes getting fired a smaller threat as the second job can hold you over for longer. It also gives the employees more bargaining power when negotiating for raises / benefits as they can threaten to quit and just live off the second job for a bit, they can also play both employers off one another to compete for the employees time. These all increase worker power which capitalists/employers don't like.

A long unemployment line has the opposite effect and decreases worker power. It makes firing a bigger threat as the employee knows it will be harder to get a job, so the employer can work them more and pay them less. It also reduces employee bargaining power as the threat of quitting isn't as real and the employer knows it.

This is why a Marxist approach is needed, economics just looks at the dollar and cents, but if you look only at that you can miss underlying power dynamics that also drive behavior.

  • On one hand, I'm tired of these dipshits holding us back from any sort of progress and would love if we just didn't have to deal with them anymore.

On the other hand, i don't want to leave them be to oppress their minorities and destroy their environment

  • Marx called this more then a century ago, any labor saving technology will always be used to put people in the unemployment line instead of lessening work because capitalist love a long unemployment line to keep the workers in line.

He thought that it would lead to the unemployed masses teaming up with the imiserated workers to overthrow capitalism, which hasn't happened...yet.

  • Damn, making it suck even worse to be a fish. even if you're not dredged up from a fishing net or choke on plastic you now can die from starving because the nutrients that have been coming up from the deep for millenia aren't any more.

  • The title may be wrong, the article says 35,000 households. Idk what the average household size is but just guessing 2 that would be 70,000 people, about a 10% increase on the city's population of 780,000.

You have to also consider they're talking about the city proper, the metro area is around 4 million people and that area probably gained a lot more cars as it's mostly suburbs.

  • Thanks for the actual reply.

Also, on the flotilla thing it seems debatable that Israel did anything,

It happened again last night, so it's pretty unlikely it was just an accident with a flare or cigarette. BBC is also confirming that it was a grenade as they found the casing on the deck. Unless you want to go full skeptic and say they set off a grenade on there own boat for attention, this was most likely Israel.

As for Tunisia, they could've just not seen it, if the drone is small enough then radar probably couldn't pick it up, and its not like they're actively monitoring the port for drones. Even if they did detect it they may not reveal that because it shows they can't defend there own airspace. It's not like they can retaliate or appeal to the UN, especially after Qatar they've proven Israel can bomb whoever they want and get away with it.
