  • The TPM a backdoor, I guess it may be technically possible but it is highly unlikely. If you need a backdoor, the UEFI of a computer is a much more feasible option, especially with built in AMT firmware for remote management.

  • Pattern recognition and “generative” ai are 2 completely different things. One is helpful tool with limited capabilities , the other is an overhyped markov chain that uses humongous amounts of energy and steals humans’ creative works.

  • Well, there really are a lot of Chinese tourists around in NL, and groups of them do have an odd tendency to discuss things and look for guidance on their phones in the strangest places. Next to general tourist things I mean, like going to stop and look around at the top of a busy and fast moving escalator :) so I get why it ends up in a book. Is that racism?

  • Also, I think the Register’s point was not about feasibility or profitability even, but more that no one at STEP can explain where the money is going at all; it might be research and reactor, but just as well shiny new macbooks as a New Year’s present for everyone and ’is mum.
