  • It's been somewhat longer than a year that I've felt like there was a qualitative shift, a societal tipping point, towards a more authoritarian or so-called 'illiberal' democracy. One where you can vote once every few years and that's it. No civil society, no judicial system, no protests, no unions allowed to influence the party political manoeuvering. And we'll have to be thankful, because it's not as bad as elsewhere outside the 'enlightened' European continent...

Rule of law under pressure: human rights institute calls for concrete action

  • Oh yes, for me it's about the tension mainly. And using my advantage as a solo to be sneaky. I don't actively avoid combat usually, but don't go looking for it per se. I personally don't run much silenced weapons anymore these days. The psychological impact of loud gunshots is really important in this game. And in the current event, I have had multiple fights where I get in between two teams duking it out. That was fun and probably added quite a bit of confusion to the shootout. Will do that more often!

  • I'm different. As with real hunters I accept that often I return with empty hands.

  • I respect that. Do you also play like this as a solo?

  • I've only ever played solo, and I'm not particularly good at the game or anything. I don't bother with Soul Survivor. I tend to play a bit opportunistic, a bit risk averse even. Check where I spawn, where the extraction point is where I'm planning to go to one and see what happens on the way. Maybe I'm just content with killing some AI. Or I get the jump on another player. I often extract without engaging. If other teams are duking it out at a compound, I usually give them a wide berth. The frustration is just at that tolerable level to me to make it fun to play.

  • Not the same though - the book is non-fiction. Still great though. And no reason not to enjoy them together.

  • But it groups them if they have the same properties. So it's perfectly possible to have 'groups' of just one individual.

  • The VRT gives us another great case of how framing works in our media. In the Dutch version of the website, the news is categorized as 'regional news' which means it's reach is a lot less on the website, even though they state themselves that there are actions going on in other regions too. The Dutch title is also mentions the 'damaging of buildings' while the English version and the RTBF one just mention them being blockaded.

  • It's not though. It could be the point in some cases. But often enough, constitutions have been granted as concessions from the sovereign to whatever group was putting up pressure, often the nobility, who had no further intent to introduce a republic or democracy or whatever else. Just looking out for their own interests.
