Day 109 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • It’s still the second one. I’m replaying it because of some stuff they added for post game after an update

  • Day 109 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake again.

This screenshot i took was in the Subway while making my way back to the Collapsed Train Tunnel. This game really has upped the fear factor. Personally i love the first game's controls more, but this game has a way of constantly keeping me on the edge of my seat. I love it.

The game has a ton of clever references to the first game. For example there’s the shoebox where i can store items, which is a really awesome reference to Zane's shoe box in the first game.

I took a bonus screenshot while Alan was running away and my game bugged out. I don't think he realized the rest of the Subway car was gone already:

Day 108 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Highly recommend it. It might be personal bias but It’s easily made its way into my Top 3 Games of all time.

  • Day 107 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Definitely. The way Remedy executes the stage moments doesn’t feel too out of place either. I feel like it would be hard to execute that in a horror game in a way that doesn’t take you out of the moment, yet remedy keeps doing it over and over again

  • Day 108 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Normally I would but the DLC isn’t really in my budget right now. When it is I totally want to go check out the DLCs because I’ve seen a few people praise the new Lake House DLC and I want to play it now

  • Day 108 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • I had this big stupid grin on my face the entire time and I was giggling. Remedy really did an awesome job at calling back to the first one

  • Random Screenshots of my Games #39 - Control (Happy Halloween!🎃)
  • That’s what I ended up doing for my Alan Wake II post last night because there was just a lot to talk about with the ending. I figured in clients that don’t support Lemmy’s built in spoiler system though the ::: at the end will tell them where the spoilers end

  • Day 108 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake II. I beat it today. I'm going to try and put how i feel about it into words but the game was as close to perfect (for me personally) that i feel a game could get. Most likely it will come out as a jumbled mess because i haven't had any time to properly format any sort of essay form to this, but i wanted to get my thoughts on it out there.

I'm going to put any possible spoilers in lemmy's built in spoiler box so people who don't want to be spoiled can at least somewhat understand my points (it will just be lacking the explanations).

Before if i was forced to pick between Alan Wake I or II, it would have been hard but i would ultimately go with Alan Wake I because of Nostalgia. But Remedy's writing and attention to details in this one have knocked it out of the park. There were some points where it legitimately left me holding my breath.

    spoiler

There's one segment where Alan gets out of the dark place, and is running through the woods. He makes a mention of how it's just like he started and then the Song Water Pressure plays, which is the same song that plays in the first one, like when he started. I also found myself smiling at his narrations while int he woods. it made me so nostalgic.

Then the game also has a remix of Departure playing in some places which did the same thing. I legit stopped at the Jukebox playing it and went "hey! that's departure from the first game!"

Also, Alice's "Death" genuinely creeped me out though, and the way it was executed had me genuinely believe she might be dead despite seeing the background and saying to myself "That's cauldron lake, maybe she went to the dark place?"

Then with Alan's death, i love how it saves the answer to the question that it might be a loop for an after credit's scene. It left time for the fear that he might actually be dead to sink into my stomach like a weight.

And then there was Saga's segment in her mind palace. It was so well done, because the game spends the entire time setting it up as a safe place kind of like what Fable 3 did with it's sanctuary. Then it rips the safety and control you have over it out from under you. The jumpscare of the cultist legit got me, and i appreciate they only did it once.

I'm so glad i avoided spoilers for this game, because it's one of those games that after beating it i'm left with a pit where it used to be. I unlocked the Final Draft (Basically the game's New Game Plus) which from what i understand adds to the story, i already am making plans to jump straight into that because Alan Wake II has left me wanting more.

As is tradition for what i've been doing with Alan Wake II, i took a couple more portraits too:

Random Screenshots of my Games #39 - Control (Happy Halloween!🎃)
  • That was part of the same issue i had as well, i kept having to put it on hold for a tough boss. I hope your able to see it through to the end this time!

  • Day 107 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • I always listen to the music. With the way remedy is it plays such a vital part in it that i would be caught dead before skipping them. It may be nostalgia bias for the first one but particularly Poet of The Fall's Heroes and Villains was my favorite, RAKEL's Follow You Into The Dark knocked it out of the park too.

    spoiler

Then there was this stage at the end, which was playing a remix of Departure from the first game which i would by lying if i said it didn't make me sad and nostalgic

Then there was a segment in the game that used the same music from the first episode of Alan Wake I, and that to me felt really clever because of the parallels too it. Overall i feel like remedy knocked it out of the park in all departments, and the music especially was no exception.

  • Day 107 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • I would say it is worth playing the first one because it builds off of the ending and a lot of the plot exposition in it. I do think 2 does a decent job of explaining things quickly to newcomers, but if you have the time I’d say playing the first one is a good idea to get the full picture

  • The iPhone 17 might use Apple’s own Wi-Fi chips
  • I’ll have to look into getting a Ubiquiti once my Airport finally bites the dust because there are some QOL features I’d like to have. I’m starting to think that my airport will never die though

  • Deleted my Reddit! I am now entirely federated online except for Pixelfed!
  • I like Lemmy’s feel. It feels much more of a community because of small size. It’s easier to catch up, like there’s not as much of a FOMO because you maybe get 1-2 new things every hour instead of having 400 posts shoved down your throat after refreshing. At least that’s how I feel

  • Day 107 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • Ooh. No I have not. I’ll have to check tomorrow because now I’m interested in how many I’ve missed so far

  • The iPhone 17 might use Apple’s own Wi-Fi chips
  • Probably just me coping, but I’m hoping this leads to the return of Airports. I still have an Airport Extreme I use for my router. Having one that can do proper mesh though would be a god send, and having Wi-Fi 6 support would be awesome along with a newer SMB standard for the Time Capsule.

  • Is there any country culture, like *yeehaw* country, you truly enjoy?
  • I grew up in the Southern/Midwest U.S., and a large part I don’t miss, but I find myself missing the small town culture. I liked being able to know almost everybody there

  • I'm so tired everyday.
  • It’s hard for me to do that too. I found setting regular reminders for it on my phone helped, at least once I get over that initial hump of forming a pattern, then it just becomes a simple “oh. Today’s my day to run laundry”. Of course, if I break that habit it becomes hard again, but it does help a lot. But also I’m no psychologist, so for all I know it could be a case by case basis

  • Every single one I see. Idk if anything will come out of petting them all but at this point it’s more habit than anything

  • Day 107 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

I continued Alan Wake II today. I've been avoiding spoilers for this game so i have no clue if i'm near the end or not, but i'm loving the entire thing and i already don't want it to end. I'm hoping to get a second part of going back to play as Alan but with where i got too in the story i have a feeling i'm close to the end sadly. I also took a ton of screenshots (Though i do that everyday, i just have a lot that i feel are "share-worthy").

Overall i'm enjoying Saga's half of the story just as much as Alan's. While Alan's section allowed for stealth, Saga's embraces combat with boss fights and such.

This screenshot doubled as a experiment, i wanted to see if since it's a dark photo if a bit more grain could help it look realistic. I did a similar thing when the hallway filled with blood, but i think i put too much grain in it:

    !

I also played around with the portrait mode some more and took a photo of Tor and a enemy. I really like this game's photo mode because it feels like it encompasses it's whole theme of art. So it's very appropriate that it allows for that:

    ! !

I also took this screenshot of the road which i loved because i feel like it showcases how pretty this game is. Some of these photos i (personally) feel like could pass for real life at a glance. I think for sure tricks like the motion blur help:

    !

Bonus pic of a deer head i took because it caught my attention:

In the era of remakes and remasters, what niche game would you like to see receive the treatment?
  • idk if it's considered obscure but I'd love to see the OG Viva Pinata get a remake (Or remaster atleast)

  • Steam games will now need to fully disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages
  • This will be helpful for discerning if a game can run on the Steam Deck. There's not many games that don't have verification (Either by Valve or ProtonDB) but for newer games with anticheat it will serve as a good rule of thumb i imagine

  • Random Screenshots of my Games #39 - Control (Happy Halloween!🎃)
  • Thank you! I try to avoid spoilers in mine. I usually use Lemmy's built in spoiler feature when it's though inevitable or i really want to share it, but i just recently found out that not every client does spoilers the same way so i think i'll have to think up some other idea

  • Random Screenshots of my Games #39 - Control (Happy Halloween!🎃)
  • I loved control, it had so many unique ideas. i only got halfway through though before having to delete it to make space though sadly. With my playthrough of Alan Wake II i think i want to dedicate myself to going back and finishing it soon though

  • Day 106 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake II. I got the FSR 3 mod running, bringing my frames up to a far more stable 30 fps outside. There's some noticeable ghosting rarely but besides that it works great.

I took this screenshot while doing Alan's story on my way to the theater. I love the poster because i love how it's the opening of the First Game's dialog. The whole game has so many cool poster and signs in the dark place.

I completed what i assume is the first part of Alan's Story, and it automatically took me back to Saga's. I decided to continue her part since it seems like that's where the game wants me to go.

While continuing her story i took a portrait of Alan and Casey i thought came out well:

Day 105 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake. I had a ton of free time and managed to get pretty far. I'm playing on Steam Deck so my frame rates occasionally dip below 30 (You can tell my low video settings by Alan's face). I saw someone online though talking about a FSR-3 mod for it though and how it's super simple. Figured i'd install it. ended up spending 4 hours on it. First the tutorial was outdated and i had to install the mod directly into the game, then the controller wasn't being detected, then it wouldn't launch in game mode, then the mod vanished. At that point i said screw it and went back to the game. I might try again tomorrow because the benefits seem worth it.

This screenshot i took was in the Ocean View Hotel while making my way back into the main foyer area. I love how this game upped the thrill factor. I do prefer the first games controls i think, but this one i think has me constantly on edge. I love it. I also like the nods to the first game too. One example is There's a shoebox where i can store items, and i think it's an amazing reference to the lore of the first game.

I took a bonus screenshot while Alan was getting his face pummeled in by a Shadow. It looks like he's taking a selfie while pissed off:

Day 104 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Max Payne 1 again. I finished it up today, surprisingly fast considering how far along i was yesterday. Tomorrow i'm going to start Alan Wake II (assuming i have the free time to pick it up by the time i get home).

I really enjoyed this game. I loved the story and the narration, along with the imagery used. On top of that the Bullet Time mechanics were so satisfying to use. I also liked the graphics, the primitive design and the dark snowy lighting feel perfect for this game. It can be a bit cruel at times with the Saves (At some points i found myself manually saving after each room), but overall i would recommend people pick it up and play, especially with how low it goes in pricing on steam. It took me 8.6 hours in total to play through the game on normal difficulty.

    7
Day 103 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Max Payne. I've had this for a while and with how much Alan Wake II takes from Max Payne i thought it would be appropriate to at least visit it.

At first i tried playing with controller and struggled, but i found that once i switched to PC it became far more natural. The Bullet Time mechanic is satisfying to use, and the story scratches an itch which only L.A. Noire seemed to hit up until this point in time. On top of that i love the setting. I love big cities and especially during the winter. Not to mention i love the graphics retro graphics of it.

On top of that, I finally got 100% on Alan Wake 1 today! I went through and got all the collectibles and the misc achievements. It took going through almost the entire game again but by basically speedrunning it i did it.

    15
Day 102 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake's American Nightmare. I finished the third loop on nightmare mode today. After this i think i'll take a break briefly before moving onto Alan Wake II. I think i might try and play through Uncharted: The Lost Legacy or Fallout 4. Or maybe i'll try finish Control, start Quantum Break, or start the first Max Payne so i stay in the Remedy-verse

I had forgotten how terrifying the game gets later. I'm going to avoid story spoilers, but the enemies get far more monstrous and larger. So it turns into you having these huge creatures nearly double your height pursuing you with buzzsaws. On nightmare mode they are bullet sponges too. I had to load nearly 20 rounds into them to go down. This game has the remedy charm though, and throws you into a battle sequence with two of them and a song playing, making it feel far more epic and providing what imo felt like a comfortable spacer from the usual pace American Nightmare sets.

Day 101 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is No Man's Sky again. I'm hooked on the Cursed Expedition they have. The creatures on the planet are gorgeous. I'm almost finished with the first tier of the Expedition, after staying up later than i should have to finish it. But its all worth it for the new pet you get with it.

Today's screenshot is of a Huge Sky Jellyfish i got a picture of while on the cursed expedition. It was flying around the location i spawned in. After i got my ship fixed I flew my it past the Jellyfish and i was completely dwarfed by how large this thing is. It's too bad i can't tame it. i'd love to have one in my Companion Registry right next to Orbo.

Speaking of my companion registry i got a new creature that's a glowing blue mass. It makes a buzzing and humming noise. I tamed one and it's really cool. I wish there was a coral or something i could put my pets in around my base so they can wander around.

Day 100 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is No Man's Sky, and day 100! I honestly didn't expect to get this far with my schedule but i'm happy i did.

I decided to play No Man's Sky after seeing the new update for Halloween with all the Cthulhu stuff. I especially want the Bioluminescent Companion from it. I went to collect my Extractors on my freighter before leaving and snagged this shot from my balcony. I also got a few extras from planets i stopped along the way.

    !

This one is of a planet that was entirely yellow. This is how i found out i have the sense of humor of a Middle Schooler.

    !

This one i stopped by and took a screenshot at. I thought it was pretty with all the purple on it and i was planning to build a base here, but then i saw the corrupted sentinels and noped out because they're more of a pain then they're worth

    !

This final one i saved for last. Partly because it's my favorite with all the snow, and partly because all my other posts with Alan Wake have been dark, so i wanted to put something a bit brighter at the forefront. The ship in the snow there is the Hanai HA5 which is a Solar ship i have. I wish it came in a different color other than yellow, but oh well.

Day 99 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake's American Nightmare. I completed the second loop today, and also finally moved out of my comfort zone by using the assault rifle. The animation for it looks hilarious with Alan. I also found out how much of a pain The Birdman and the Splitter are because they take 8 shots to go down with the Hunting Rifle. Out of all the enemies on Nightmare mode they gave me the most trouble. My MicroSD card i kept it on also decided today was a perfect day to die, so i had to perform an emergency transfer to get everything off of it. I'm going to call SanDisk support tomorrow to see if i'm still under warranty. Luckily i have Alan Wake II still installed on the Internal SSD so i should be good for the day after tomorrow.

    1
Day 98 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Alan Wake's American Nightmare. I started the first loop today, i plan to space it out between three days for the three loops, partly because it feels like a good way to space it out and partly because i have 6 achievements left in Alan Wake (Relevant Picture Attached)

    !

I love American Nightmare though, i think it pairs well with the original. While the original is much more of a thriller i feel like, American Nightmare feels like it leans much more into the Action side. Where in Alan Wake it felt like you were in a constant fight for survival, American Nightmare throws an Assault Rifle at you and tells you to have fun. On top of this the Revolver of the first game is by default replaced with a 9m pistol, which i feel removes some of the thriller vibes because you don't have to mash x to reload faster, you just tap x to reload (though i will proudly admit i went traditional loadout and equipped a Shotgun and Revolver). It still has it's thriller moments but like i said, it feels far more action orientated.

    spoiler

This is especially evident with the opening segment where you light blow up the oil field by summoning a Satellite while Kasabian's Club Foot plays. (Once Again, Relevant Picture Attached)

    !

This also feels evident in the controls, AW has much floatier controls while AWAN's controls are much more sensitive and precise, perfect for the much more action orientated gameplay.

I feel like this difference though makes for an amazing companion to the First one, and i appreciate it for trying it's own new thing. Especially for being maybe only a few hours in length it's great to play right after the first one imo.

    4
Day 97 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is The Evil Within. I wanted to stick with the horror theme i have going but wanted to pad something in between Alan Wake and Alan Wake's American Nightmare, so i picked this up. I really enjoyed it, if i'm hopefully still in a horror mood after Alan Wake II i'll probably continue this (Especially if i can't get my hands on the Silent Hill 2 Remake by then).

This Sewage tunnel in the screenshot really freaked me out more than it should have. i was fully expecting to get jump scared by something with the way this was designed, or at least have to run. I have to say this game does a good job of managing that feel. I always feel like I'm weak and being hunted despite the game giving me tons of tools to fight things.

    4
Day 96 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today’s game is Alan Wake. Tonight may or may not be the last Screenshot from Alan Wake depending on how Achievement Clean up goes tomorrow (I have to get most of the collectibles and that’s it besides some misc. stuff). I’m proud to say though I completed the entire game on nightmare mode. Even got the Gunless wonder achievement for beating the last episode without firing a single shot and the one for Special 1 where you don’t use a vehicle (along with all manuscript pages).

This screenshot is from Special 2. I took it while climbing up the lighthouse using the Freecam built into the game. This whole episode is a lot of fun. The word mechanics are great and I feel like it leverages the Dream like state of the Dark Place well.

! Another part I enjoyed was this Ferris wheel segment. Idk why, maybe I’m part hamster, but I really enjoyed this and how everything seemed to be flipped on its head at some parts. Especially the part where I had to jump in the water. I was really unsure due to how water was portrayed in this game.

On a side note. Something was wrong with Dream Barry. Idk if it’s an intentional developer joke because the player would probably never see, or if my game is bugged or what. But Barry’s eye textures were replaced with his face textures. It’s not like this in Special 2, or in his normal model in the base game. So idk what’s wrong with him here.

    !

    2
Day 95 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today’s game is Alan Wake. I finally started on Episode 6. I was hoping to clear it in one go and nab the Gunless wonder achievement too. So far I’m doing good. But I got stuck on this section in some woods where I don’t have any flares or flashbacks, and since I can’t use guns or I’ll lose the achievement, I’m basically at the hardest challenge yet I’ve had yet I think. On top of that my battery almost died so I put my console to sleep and plan to finish the last 10~ Minutes tomorrow and start on DLC 1 & DLC 2. The after that I think I might do American Nightmare before Alan Wake II. It’s not too long of a game so I should be able to clear it easily.

This screenshot I took right outside the Majestic Motell. I want to also use this to talk about the games awesome attention to detail as well.

While trying to avoid as many spoilers as possible, In one of the books we follow a protagonist who stays in this hotel, and he stays in the same room Agent Nightingale stayed in. He finds Agent Nightingale’s notes in the Air Vents while looking for a place to store his Dream Journal. Lo and behold. What do I find in the Air Vents in Agent Nightingale’s room?

    !

Anyways, I love this game’s attention to detail. I really hope Alan Wake II has the same because it’s something remedy does well at on top of original gameplay imo.

    7
Day 94 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today’s game is Borderlands the Pre-Sequel. Me and a Friend are getting ready for something tomorrow. So we were low on time. We ended up playing some Borderland to save on time. I played claptrap. I don’t have much of a story this time due to just not playing very long, so instead I’ll talk about the game.

I can see why this game was so well received back in the day. A lot of the humor still stands up well, at least imo, and the gameplay cycle is fun. One of the guns I had I could throw when I reload and they explode which is incredibly satisfying to do. On top of that Claptraps special perk is fun, especially when it irritates the people I’m playing with, such as one that makes them continuously fire according to my friend. Overall I had a lot of fun just playing around in the game with my friend and doing some side quests.

    9
Day 93 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Just Cause 4. I wanted to take it easy after an exhausting week of work. At this point i doubt i'll make much of a dent in Alan Wake II by Halloween, but it's better than burning myself out and not having fun.

I picked Just Cause 4 because it was the one i had installed. I have more nostalgic memories of Just Cause 3 and dicking around in that. But Just Cause 4 is a lot of fun too with the balloons and stuff. I ran around and did a few missions and tethered some guys and their cars to some Balloons. You're seeing the after effects here.

I also had a lot of fun strapping the boosters to the bottom of a car with balloons and getting in and turning it on. The car took flight and would crash into other cars. Has the same kind of chaotic feel as Red Dead Redemption and Wagon Surfing.

Day 92 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today's game is Phasmophobia. Me and my Friend decided to celebrate finishing our midterms by playing this.

We found out we actually have turn on the motion sensors, and then i watched my friend stumbler out into the front yard and get choked to death (I took a photo of the ghost while it happening and got some extra cash though! So really who won?).

In another job my friend was bitching me out for taking photos because they're "useless". Jokes on him though because the $12 dollars we got after failing to guess right came from my photos of the sink.

Here's a bonus photo of my friend up in my face while i'm trying to steal a cat photo from the house:

Day 91 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

    Today's game is Lethal Company.

We recently got back into the game after a few updates. When we landed on this planet we were faced with what can only be described as the wrath of god and the U.S. air force teamed up, as my friend was nearly struck by an explosion. We barricaded the door of the ship until we figured out what was going on. The screenshot is of me peeking out of the barricade.

We also got Bee Suits which is the best part of this game. Sadly we lost them though when we failed to meet quota after getting hit by these weird insects, and then i had my neck snapped by this baby thing while backing away from the bugs. Right after the insects latched onto my friends face and killed him. Then after we could only afford one flashlight, so my friend went in while i watched the monitor. He got a ton of things but got killed by a plant man. We couldn't afford another flashlight so he went in blind and i had to navigate for him without one. He fell to his death.

After that we had to go back because we ran out of time and we failed our quota. We got the joy of leaping into the ocean though since we were going to fail anyways.

    1
Day 90 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

Today’s game is Zomboid. The screenshot is of a Shed that I built.

Me and my friend took Jerry and Cable to look for some Nails because we were running low and I wanted to get Jerry’s Carpentry Skill up by building a Shed (as all Suburban Dads do).

We went by a Storage Unit and ran through all the open units trying to find a box, but didn’t end up finding any. My friend did find a blue Taxi he ended up taking home and I found a storage unit full of Zombies I nearly died in.

We went next door to a Factory next and searched there too. We found 5 boxes of screws and also a few things of food we went ahead and took home. After that we drove home and I got to work on the shed.

Nearly 2 days of tireless work later of decimating the local ecosystem and sawing it into logs and I built this wonderful shed. I couldn’t put a roof on it yet due to needing a Staircase, but that’s okay. I still love my shed regardless.
