Hey I am a long time refugee of reddit/digg. I think I am too fresh on the lemmy scene but to me the actions of beehaw seem to be trying to protect their unique community rather than cloning reddit. 🤔 I have wondered about the likelihood of using a scrapper to grab high rated/filtered content from specific subreddits for the purposes of cross post onto sites like lemmy. Especially if you are running a sister subreddit like you are. On the otherside; spez and some reddit mods/users are not going to appreciate their content being lifted..the locking down of the API seems to be along these lines. It probably really depends on the type of post, also in recent times I saw an increasing amount of tiktok reposts on reddit. Definitely local tradional media news organizations used reddit as a source.
