Im thinking I might only mod if I run into issues. From what everyone is telling me, the game is SOLID with issues like you said that are "a product of its time" i think I can handle that.

Im glad im not the only one getting value from this, I hope others that haven't given the game a shot pop in and ask questions I haven't considered or just appreciate the fact that everyone has been super helpful. it speaks to the Deus Ex community as a whole. I was half expecting comments like "why do you need our input? just play the game." , instead "Neat!" Indeed.

yeah you might be right, the entire new mechanics section might be more than what im looking for. and this line alone in the review "However, my overall impression is a negative one. GMDX unbalances Deus Ex from being a fun, accessible game to being a struggle." Might have to save that for a 2nd or 3rd playthrough

does the story and game play make up for this shortcoming? also with that in mind would it viable to play a full run and gun play through on my first go of that game?

Im getting conflicting info on this, another user is telling me that GMDX changes too much. Probably just going to have to read the changes for each suggested mod. Im just worried im going to read something that might otherwise have been a very interesting moment within gameplay.

Odd, another user just stated that GMDX is more or less just a graphics and QOL overhaul. I might just have to read through the changes and decide for myself. I purposefully havent looked this stuff up myself to avoid spoilers, I might just have to bite the bullet.

awesome! looking for stuff just like this. out of curiosity Will reading the game play tweaks prior to playing spoil anything? also are there any major changes from the original works or is it purely aesthetic/QOL? Im worried im going to have a skyrim situation again where modders are just adding/changing things that do not fall within those categories.

I'm always looking for nooks and crannies for bits of lore or resupplies. from what you said I might have to put in multiple play-through to really get the full experience, as well as trying your modding suggestions.

there is definitely something to be said about nostalgia goggles but to be honest going back and playing the games from my childhood (and older titles like this) there's just something missing from modern gaming that makes it feel mildly soulless. my next game on my backlog is Thief, and I just recently replayed the original Half-Life so All aboard the nostalgia train. o7

Very helpful, I do find it hard to strike a balance with the efficiency of LLMs and the lack of accurate data. While I may reach an answer, I may end up spending an equal amount of time trying to create a concise prompt versus just doing the hard research and reading documentation. I wish there was a way to know how in depth of a question im asking is. Aswell as what type of surrounding knowlege might be useful in accomplishing my goals.

Good example: I had was attempting to set up a fancy custom hyprland setup. I may have spent much less time had I not refered to AI, not to mention I gave up and went back to gnome due to frustration with the innacurate or useless data given to me by my LLM. Had i known the scale of what i was getting into Id never have refered to AI.

This is what is behind the worries about free speech being blocked. The problem is that free speech can have consequences, for example someone using AI to generate fake images of someone and posting them claiming free speech, or others goading someone who has posted suicidal thoughts.

The payment processor debacle happened due to an austrailian activist group called collective shout they directly attacked payment processors by filing complaints to american payment processor companies. Nothing to do with following international commerce laws. I PROVED that there was no direct corrilation between accepting international payments and following local laws. The excerpt from the ofcom website admits that they have no direct power or laws backing their complaints, and will attack using the same underhanded tactics used by collective shout. not to mention the payment processors rolled back this decision in light of back lash.

Okay Ill concede that 4chan is not decentralized. however my original point stands. The violations of consumer protection laws are the same on both platforms. The sites both prioritize, anonimity, freedom of speech, and self modderation.

4chan intends to ignore these complaints. if they do, sure they can attack the payment processors. But there is no law that states "If 4chan accepts payments in the UK that they must comply." as youve previously implied. Therefore if further action is taken (like blocking coinbase payments) Then 4chan will respond.

Your initial comment was largely irrelevent to the actual laws that affect 4chans buisness or modderation practices which the letter is in response to... further more your advocation of said tactics to attack 4chan is concerning considering your CURRENT presence on a decentralized platform that accepts dontations through similar payment processors and can be blocked through ISPs.

True, but why does it matter here? The original letter to 4chan stated that they are violating the Photo ID based online safety laws, nothing about their intent to follow commerce laws.

I mean 4chan is the hub for degens so i can understand why youd want to see them lose. But I think this sets a bad precident If anything it should be up to the UK to block in and out going traffic to 4chan. (Dont think they can do this either though)

If 4chan bends the knee lemmy could easily be next. Itd be more effort attacking each instance. But still possible. I really hope youre just playing devils advocate and arent praying for our collective downfall.
