  • This is where public transit would come in. And it's not like most of us want to do away with all final mile delivery, emergency vehicles, etc. We just don't want the car infrastructure to be the primary concern in the design of public spaces.

Straw-maning the elderly and disabled for car use is also interesting, as those are probably both groups that either shouldn't or can't drive a car for other reasons.

  • Don't do the forbidden math
  • I'll definitely give them a listen!

I also need to recommend, as you seem to be a brid of my feather, using audible and a kindle together to trade off between daytime story listening and nighttime reading in bed. I know Amazon is evil, and there are a lot of issues in particular with audible's payment structure towards indie authors, but God damn do they offer a compelling service. I picked up a new-gen Paperwhite last prime day and my bedtime routine and travel bag has been irrepreably changed.

I'd love to hear more about what you've been listing to!

Edit: I didn't make it clear above but Amazon will track your progress between the audiobook and the Kindle book and sync them.

  • Unfortunately the only cameras that still use 35mm for sale on the market are point and shoots and leicas as far as I know. There is definitely a great variety of tested and we'll maintained cameras for sale online.

  • Color film was, and still is, considerably more expensive than black and white. Probably just what they had in their camera!

Also most news papers didn't swap to color photography until the late 90s, so if it's a reporter it's likely they had black and white film

  • How many people actually dropped Reddit for Lemmy?
  • Well summarized!

The issue with FOSS software is it attracts people who use FOSS software. I'm not saying I want the reddit of 2021 back, but the reddit of 2016 would be nicer than the reddit of 2009 we are emulating now.

Once a few of us get our friends on board and we grow a touch more, I think Lemmy has a real chance of capturing some more of the "middle" tech literacy users, giving us some of what I, and I presume you, miss about Reddit.

  • Climate activists target jets, yachts and golf in a string of global protests against luxury
  • Oftentimes they do not as it is quite expensive to make many kinds of "grey water" safe enough to be basically touched by golfers all the time. Being in the center of the desert with high water costs, it made sense in Arizona.

Regardless, keeping that much grass alive for such a small number of people to enjoy feels like a misalignment in priories of a local water authority to me. With the general trend towards water insecurities the world over I'm a bit upset with golf courses.

  • Big Tech companies are finally getting the names we thought dystopian megacorps would have
  • In my experience none of them taste great, but if you make them part of your daily flow you get over it pretty quickly. I've heard good things about the newer pre-mixed and flavored ones, but I got to a good place with my nutrition a few years ago and stopped using pretty much all meal replacements.

  • you can't expect us to live up to this
  • That's almost exactly the difference. Mechanically, they are very similar with some expanded interactions and a bit more player agency. It feels more like playing d&d than ever before.

The SCOPE of the story is on an entirely different level. I've only played the first 10 hours, but I've done so almost 4 times, and each run through has felt >70% unique. Choices have weight, options are meaningful and plentiful, character interactions are some of the closest I've felt to interacting with other players in a turn based RPG.

Is it going to shock the world like Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild? No, probably not. It does show what can be accomplished by a great team of driven writers and programmers who actually care.

Definitely worth a try if you can pay the entry fee.

  • Mississippi "Goon Squad" cops plead guilty in warrantless raid and torture of black men
  • I feel physically ill after making it to the gunshot. This is not the act of men, these subhuman pieces of trash are the same as some of the human rights atrocities we've claimed to inavde other countries for. 100% premeditated. There is nothing redeemable in that account.
