It's still a MAJOR part of the Pokemon franchise to this day! Sword & Shield, Scarlet & Violet, and even THE LEGENDS GAMES make all sorts of establishments where Pokemon are eaten, wether they're in Pokedex entries to the literal food you eat in-game. So saying "they mostly avoid it nowadays" is bullshit.
