That's so fucked up. I'm not surprised unfortunately. Flood plain and building very close to oceans is popular in Canada as well and will lead to many issues pretty soon.

This is pretty common at summer camps with cell phones, there are many reasonst. It's also common however to have people in place who are trained and will respond to such incidents regardless of camp size, location or time of day.

I worked as the director of health for a major kids camp in Canada for a long while. This phone call would have come to me at our camp. We had almost 1000 people across three sites in our summer camp then. Only three people on each site had phones permanently but I guarantee this would have been responded to immediately. Evacuation plans in place and reviews and updates for them every year. I received emergency calls all the time. Day and night.

I guess what I'm getting at is there shouldn't have been that many people in one place without Evac plans, having practiced them and someone who answers an emergency line 24 hours a day who has experience and knowledge in emergency situations. An hour warning is more than enough time to evac this small a camp if you are prepared.

Not just the state and weather are to blame for this tragedy. The camp needs to bear just as much responsibility. They've taken on these children with the responsibility to care for and protect them. They didn't do that.

There are a number of international unions that could use a clean house and redo. Most of them represent the lowest paid workers. This isn't just a 'murica problem. Canada is no better.

Mall security with guns and people's lives in their hands in the Florida Everglades. Should be awesome. There won't be any problems for sure. I hope my fellow Canadians can put pressure on to somehow make this more public.

Canadian here. I have to correct you on this. This concentration camp may be in Florida but It was built and is being staffed by Gardaworld. A Canadian company. Fucking fuckers.

If those high earners were protesting and fighting, feeding those with less, supporting rebellion with their money and knowledge instead of working or fleeing, it would certainly solve that problem.

The plan is already in place with my family for when your dictator presses your countrymen into service to come for our water, oil and rare earth metals. It has been so since drumphkins started talking about annexation and instigated economic warfare on our country and we in turn heard crickets from 'murica. We won't be working, on our couches or fleeing to the best European country that will take us. Our kids may embark on a European journey but we will be right here at home.

The kits are stocked and the truck is ready to roll with five other like minded individuals. Turns out we might only be going to Ottawa though to protest our own government before that happens at this rate.

I read an article posted to lemmy today from the kid of a Moonie. They grew up in the cult and left as an adult. In the article they compare what the Moonies did to what Trump is doing right now.

As a Canadian I think we shouldn't even be entertaining the thought of trade with the regime (yes I know how difficult that would be and realistically it's not immediately possible. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be working toward it) Unfortunately we have a conservative banker in liberal colors as PM and that's never going to happen.

Edit: and the same type of brain rot citizenry raised on American exceptionalism who will argue that our PM has our best interests in mind. That they believe he's smarter than the average bear and we couldn't ever comprehend his tactics because we are just dumb pleebs.
