Are skincare routines worth it?
  • I used to be super interested in skincare, and I still am to some extent, but I have also gotten much lazier about it. I think there is a lot of 'your mileage my vary' when it come to certain products or if you even need certain steps. The only things I think are absolutely important (unless you have other skin issues) are (1) a sunscreen you remember to wear and (2) something to wash off the sunscreen. Beyond that, it's just whatever makes you (and your skin) feel good, and it's not a failing if you aren't interested in this stuff.

My current daily routine is Garnier Rose Water Toner Spray, and then either Hada Labo Hyaluronic Lotion/Premium Lotion (these are actually just liquid toners and not literally lotions), Klairs Supple Preparation All Over Lotion, COSRX Snail 96 serum, Etude Sunprise Mild Watery Light Sunscreen, and then just whatever cleansing oil I feel like trying. For context, I have fairly normal skin, maybe on the dry side if I forget to moisturize.

I've tried using various vitamin C serums and retinols and other fancy bits, but my problem is that I just forget about them so easily. So I think the key to a good skincare routine is products that you will actually use.

  • how's your week going, Beehaw
  • I have to give a presentation soon and I am not looking forward to it.

Even worse, today I found the bread and peaches I was gonna eat this week are moldy!! T_T The bread is over a week old so maybe it makes sense, but the peaches I just bought the other day!! It's annoying. But hopefully things will turn around from here.

  • What's the age cut off for socially acceptable gaming
  • YES!! That's who it is! Thank you for reminding me of her username.

  • What's the age cut off for socially acceptable gaming
  • I'm only in my early 30s and have no intention of not playing video games because I hit a certain age. I think a lot about this old lady I used to follow on Twitter who would review JRPGs and how cool she is (unfortunately I stopped using Twitter and don't remember her handle). I think these days, it's less likely for it to be "weird", whereas I remember being a kid and hearing people say it was childish.

  • do you consider yourself to be religious or otherwise spiritual, Beehaw?
  • I was not raised religious and never went to Church. I had a period of time where I was interested in paganism and witchcraft, and I have sort of dabbled in getting back to that, but I think it is just not clicking for me right now.

I don't know if there is a divine being that exists and if it does, is it something humans can even comprehend? I do believe in luck and karma (or at least some basic form of 'you will harvest from the seeds you plant'). I don't seriously believe in a heaven and hell, but I do like to imagine my loved ones in a sort of heaven, just hanging out together happily.

I am not especially a fan of how religions have been used as a tool to oppress other people. I suspect the cruel people who use religion as their hammer would find anything other excuse to be terrible if they couldn't use religion though.

  • Netflix adaptation of 3 Body Problem
  • What a coincidence, I picked up the first book this weekend and started it. Netflix adaptions don't make me very optimistic but we'll see.

  • What are your favorite cookbook/blogs?
  • Love that Just One Cookbook has already been recommended. I really enjoyed her baked versions of chicken katsu and tonkatsu (frying in oil makes me so nervous).

For Korean dishes, I really like Maangchi's blog. Her bibimbap recipe is tasty.

  • What are your favorite cookbook/blogs?
  • Sally's Scone Recipe is fantastic. During the pandemic, I made several different kinds of scones based on her recipe. Also agreeing with Budget bytes, which is where I get most of my daily recipes these days.

  • Weekend poll: Do you currently use a third-party Reddit app?
  • Before all this kerfluffle with the API, I have used Reddit is Fun for mobile for several years. I will be really bummed to see it go.

  • should we be discussing reddit less?
  • There are a couple reddit focused communities that I am following but my goal is eventually to just focus on these new spaces and less on reddit. I think it will take some time, and the amount of time will differ from person to person.

  • tell me a story
  • A story from when I was a little kid.

Back in the day, my Dad liked to go to the horse racing track to do a little betting, and he would bring myself and my brothers along. You know, give our Mom some peace and quiet for a little bit. This also meant that us kids would be able to get some concession stand snacks, like nachos. This was a big deal to us kids. Anyway, one Saturday as we were leaving the race track, some lady came to my Dad and said "Oh how sweet of you to take your grand-kids to the track with you!". My parents had us a little later in life, so he could have reasonably been someone's grandfather at that point. My brothers and I, being little shits, chimed in with "Yes Grandpa, thanks so much! This was fun, we love nachos!". I don't remember if he corrected the lady, but it was a funny story we continued to tell for years and years.

  • Any seasonal anime watchers?
  • I've been watching Oshi no Ko weekly too (though I wait til Saturday to watch). I used to like idol anime but this is such an interesting perspective on it and I really like the mystery element of it also.

  • Any seasonal anime watchers?
  • I've been watching Witch from Mercury too, though I am behind and still working through the first half. I really enjoy it and picking out the little parallels to Revolutionary Girl Utena (even if I don't think the parallels go that deep).

  • [Tears of the Kingdom] Everyone seems to think the Depths are scary but I find it oddly peaceful, just running around and collecting poes
  • I love collecting the poes too. I think the scary part for me is worrying I am about to walk right into some of the gloom goo, so I stay stocked up on brightbloom seeds.
