ROG Ally Capture card (variable refresh rate support)

I'm looking at capture cards with VRR support. Currently I found the following:

  • Elgato HD60 XE

  • Elgato Game Capture HD60 X ^ not sure if it supports a high refresh rate gameplay, two articles contradict each other on this

  • EVGA XR1 Lite

  • EVGA XR1 Pro

  • AVerMediaLive Gamer Extreme 3 ^ probably doesn't pass through higher framerates

___

Which one from the above could work best with ROG Ally? In terms of features and also connectivity.

You can also provide other examples. I care about VRR and higher FPS pass through (just for my gameplay, recording at 60 FPS is of course enough)

Dealing with USB-C connection may be an issue - Ally has only one USB-C, used for power and everything else. Hubs nearly always have only one male usb-c (connecting to your device) one usb-c for power, and nothing else. I haven't found any hub which would let me connect ROG Ally with power supply, and an additional USB-C device.

ROG Ally Capture card (variable refresh rate support)

I'm a content creator (playing PC games on my Ally). Currently I decided to look into capture cards that support VRR. So far I've come across the following options:

  • Elgato HD60 XE

  • Elgato Game Capture HD60 X < I'm unsure about its compatibility with high refresh rate gameplay since two articles contradict each other on this.

  • EVGA XR1 Lite

  • EVGA XR1 Pro

  • AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 3 < It probably doesn't support higher framerates.

Which one from the above options would work best with ROG Ally in terms of features and connectivity?

If you have any other examples, feel free to share. I'm particularly interested in VRR and higher FPS pass-through for my gameplay. While recording at 60 FPS is fine or course (YouTube won't let me upload anything higher anyway).

Dealing with the USB-C connection might be problematic since Ally only has one USB-C port, which is used for both power and other functions. Most hubs usually have only one male USB-C port for connecting to your device, one USB-C port for power, and no additional USB-C ports. Unfortunately, I haven't found any hubs that would allow me to connect ROG Ally to a power supply while also connecting an additional USB-C device.

FSR2 upscaler mod - no performance gain
  • Ah another thing. I tested it on my non gaming laptop too.

Same results. Visual change is there (looks like a better version of TAA), but performance is the same.

My laptop has Intel Xe GPU, and i5-12500H CPU. Obviously my GPU is far worse than my CPU, GPU is bad for gaming and CPU is quite good and fast.

  • FSR2 upscaler mod - no performance gain
  • My game jumps between 45 and 65 FPS (at fullhd). At the highest TDP mode. I tested performance hungry areas, and also lower power mode, where I normally I would get around 40-50 FPS. No difference.

This shouldn't happen I believe, no change in FPS. ROG Ally doesn't have an absolutely amazing GPU for FullHD.

My buddy benefits from RSR normally, but FSR2 from this mod provides no improvement (just visual change).

  • FSR2 upscaler mod - no performance gain

Hello, referring to this mod - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/80343

I would like to ask for your help with this mod, if it's not a problem. The author is not responding to comments on nexusmods at all and is also not replying to direct messages.

I search with someone who has more knowledge on how to make this mod work properly.

Is this mod currently functioning for non-Nvidia users? Even with ultra performance FSR2, I don't see any increase in FPS. The mod runs on its own and changes the visuals, but it seems like there is no downscaling happening before FSR2 is applied.

This is definitely an issue, especially because I'm using a less powerful device, the ROG Ally. My friend is experiencing the same problem. We would both greatly benefit from FSR2 if it worked as intended. ^ I also tested it on a non gaming machine, my laptop. Both devices have the same issue.

I have tried various tests, exhausting all my options. I tested the default game, then I installed display tweaks as well. I tried all game modes, from borderless fullscreen to windowed borderless, as well as basic fullscreen. I also experimented with all the performance options available, but the performance never changes.
