  • Honestly, I do not know. I don't think it can be damaged when cooking (I stand to be corrected) - I don't know if you can even use it as a weapon

Spare pots are always good though, until the electricity cuts I always try to keep clean water handy.

Once it does cut then I need to look for a wood stove somewhere to use it in the home, otherwise it is camp fire cooking.

  • Happiness Stew

  • I take the aspect of gun play as someone at zero skill shooting a gun - and with the consideration I have hit targets but seldom hit it where I want to which I think is fair for someone with no experience shooting at a moving target while panicking a bit and taking some time to aim.

One has to throw some disbelief in as Zomboid is attempting for that "realism" spectrum of game (granted there are a lot of areas that needs work, one needs to take that into consideration a little). Hunting animals is a little easier than killing the undead at least - so in that way, one can think (although not animated) that the swaying and erratic of a shambling corpse (so hitting arms, legs, etc is a character's (that the player is playing with) skill issue and is harder for them to hit another "person" until they get skilled at shooting (developing proper form, knowing how much pressure on the trigger, getting over "killing" a human, etc).

Standing on top of them doesn't necessarily mean they are not "moving" (again it is output to the player that could be better) so I imagine that hitting them in other body parts can be the equivalent of bullet being deflected as the target is flailing about (granted it isn't animated - that could be a reasonable assumption if one allows themselves to consider the "realism")

When one has gotten more levels then the aiming (I would say around aiming 5 is where is feels better) is more consistent and (especially when not panicking) one tends to hit where they target within reasonable range

The game isn't perfect, but I try to think of things in a "realism" lens and try and work with what is there

If that is not your thing, that is fine - you can always customise a sandbox world and create a world that more suits your needs and once mods are brought up to build 42, then that can be further tweaked to personal preference

  • I admit it is janky and I have died to the jankiness, but if one takes it into consideration it isn't too bad and one can work around it to enjoy the other aspects of the game - granted I enjoy retreating to the country-side so I can enjoy its better aspects and any combat I get into is very controlled encounters where I can peel off zomboids at my leisure (and this is coming from someone killing them with tree branches)

  • Yeah, I agree, playing apocalypse and wanted to retreat to the quite life after the helicopter event and was shocked to find this so early.

  • With all the new additions, it is probably best to keep it if you can survive until you can do craftables, there is a lot of new things to build now if you can survive.

or don't, the world is a lot more dangerous with things like muscle pain from combat to worry about

Glad that the reference was picked up though

  • It is a pity, the new menu art was good. Think of a 3D version of the one up now with some effects. I thought it was a nice face lift.

The loading screen images I felt were a nice addition, but felt a bit out of place in relation to the game - like it didn't capture zomboid as well as something like the newspaper images do.

The build itself though is a great step in the right direction with a LOT of new things and probably needs the usual fixing, tweaking and fine tuning to be in a great spot for a stable release in the future

  • Build 42 unstable right now, is more single player until they iron out everything for a stable release.

I would say if you don't mind playing build 41 until they release build 42 stable - then short story long:

I can be fun with friends, but if you want to play without having to worry about too much grind then it is best to play with sandbox settings and tweak gameplay towards what you and your friends find fun.

The world can made persistent, but your individual character is unique and when they die you would have to respawn with a new character

There are mods that do help with the starting out from scratch bit:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2503622437&searchtext=journal - make a journal that stores a characters stats so you don't have a grind a new character again)

The sandbox settings are very flexible (and mods can make it even more so) and you can even play in a world without zombies if you wish

  • Thank you, I do appreciate the acknowledgement 😁

  • I am sure someone really determined will make a mod for that 🤣

There are a lot of other changes and that is something I forgot about, although that feels like something to do once one has their setup in place and have a foothold.

I don't know, but a lot of the new equipment makes me feel like it is something best left to either find a place that has it or build it in a secure compound

  • Played a little bit and it feels fresh with the improvements here and there, although takes awhile to get use to.

I also see that they make corpses stink stronger, or at least your character has a moodlet for it, so it requires one to disposes of corpses or at least drag them away

Feels weird to see animals in the world, found some chickens, cows and a rat in the wild

At least on the combat side of things, herbal remedies are probably going to be in big demand, but at least it is easier to lose zomboids as well

Reading stuff is also better as your character reads something and has a "memory" of it, so it now doesn't get consumed on use. Also really like the effort on giving stuff you read some character by allowing one to read pamplets and see newspaper headlines.

I sort of have a potato with a horrible graphics card - stil, need to tweek things to find a nice balance with frames and gameplay - but at least the framerate is consistent, albeit a bit low on my side. But I will say the amount of additional details will be noticable on any machine with a decent setup( in a good way)

Yeah, just good overall with a lot of improvements and there is a lot of things to get use to with all the new stuff to figure out.

  • Ka-ching!

    Jump
  • Yeah, in retrospect I knew I had to add the edit 😅

I guess there isn't a proper spoiler tag for header images besides the NFSW tag (or at least none that I am aware of) and well this area of the game is locked behind a mini-quest of sorts

  • Yeah, the cart is the quickest for a lot of the community center stuff but have to be lucky and, in my case, having to remember to visit the her as well

  • For the truffle, the easiest way to get one is to raise pigs, once you max out a barn

I like to place my scarecrows aesthetically, although I know there is a radius, I usually like working off a 5 or 6 square radius and it has been good for me

  • Beginning of year 4

Starting to transition into the "end game" stuff, but until then I still manually do the work for now

  • Firstly, I feel offended you reduced the giant mecha vs a dragon cinematic to robot vs a doll army :P

Ff9 did the "all powerful god" but it is really a wtf out of no where momement that can feel jarring with the themes of the game - a ludonarrative narrative dissonance, unless I missed some obscure reference to it somewhere

I would argue that ff6 wrote a less jarring "kill a god" fight:

  • FF8 spoiler response ::: spoiler spoiler

Yeah, I agree especially with her being a tragic character her final lines sounds line someone desperate:

"Recall a memory from your childhood. The sensations, emotions, the words from back then. Growing up means leaving something behind and throwing something away. Time will not wait, no matter how hard you hold onto it, it escapes you. And ...",

especially considering how Ellone's powers work

I think it is repeated (at least once already) or she achieved some form of omnipotence with her time compression as her plans seem to have a definitive goal to them like she knows who to look for (Adel and Ellone) and what to do to achieve her ends. Edea (forgot her name) probably still had enough power to "guide" her a bit but ultimately she was overpowered most likely, until Ultimecia released her power to hop to the next one.

Yeah, Squall could have finished that in a few ways - although, I guess seeing Ultimecia survive (especially after she implanted that final thought, in retrospect), his instincts probably didn't want to take the chance of her time hopping again and wanted the time line to be prepared. Also he couldn't kill an innocent person either and risk one of the orphans getting the power as Edea tells him

The love story between Squall and Rinoa can be melodramatic, but it is done well enough with Rinoa peeling away the layers of edge off of Squall.

Laguna and Raine though, I agree was a lot better and I think Raine understood the type of person Laguna was and supported him - her personality was like his in some ways. She probably saw Ellone as a daughter as well and knew how far he would go to protect her, which is why she probably kept her pregnancy quiet to not distract him on his quest to save their "daughter". :::

  • I do agree on it being a great game, and she fights gods on her way to her final goal but
