What video game have you played the most, that you think is garbage and no one else should ever play?
  • Hard agree with you that D2 was better than D3 in every way. I also bought D2r and played it a bit at launch.

Have you played any D4 yet? As someone who never loved D3 I will say that D4 has been refreshing. I have some low level gripes with it, but overall I am really enjoying it.

  • To reduce dependence on China, more of us need to work in factories
  • Factory jobs do pay living wages. I worked at a Fortune 500 factory in rural AL and the entry level jobs (running the street sweeper inside the factory) started at $28/hr. Operators that took OT would make over $100k/yr. The operators that worked there 20+ years made more money than I did as an engineer.

I’ve worked in factories in California, Ohio, Alabama, and my peers have worked all over (different companies). Factory jobs pay very decent and often have a hard time finding employees.

  • It only takes half the double hits it used to take!
  • I had this problem with Cyberpunk and eventually just stopped playing. Every time I’d get a cool new weapon and want to go beat up on some street fighting scrubs only to get my ass kicked.

I prefer difficulty scaling where it’s somewhat linked to areas. Kind of like Diablo 2. So if I’m leveled up and beat Act V I can go back and tear through Andariel runs if I want, but Act V still has some challenging areas. I don’t think the entire world needs to scale as you progress.

  • I’ve fallen into a deep gaming rut lately. What helped “get you back into” gaming and rediscover the magic of video games?
  • I have a very similar relationship with gaming. A similar break for college and a similar resurgence with BotW followed by a similar falling out because of kids haha.

I’ll be honest, it doesn’t feel the same anymore. I don’t think it ever wil again. But I’ll share the things that have come close to getting that feeling back.

    1. Online game night with friends - this puts me mentally back in the 90’s staying up late and gaming with friends. It’s more about the company and conversations than the game itself. I try to do this at least once a week.

    2. Gaming with my son - he’s 6 and we’ve been able to find a ton of games we love playing together, most notably Nintendo games. He loves all things Mario. We also run through games like Hot Wheels Unleashed, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Lego 2K Drive. Anything with a kid friendly co-op campaign has been fun.

    3. Allowing yourself to mentally move on from games once you’re not having fun - I used to have this issue with a mental backlog or feel badly for buying a game and then not beating it. Not sure if you have the same issue. But lately I’ve tried not to put too much pressure on myself to beat a game. If I’m not having fun I move on. Life is too short and game time is too precious to waste it on a game I’m not loving.

Hope this helps. Like I said, I don’t think it’ll ever feel the same, but this has helped it come close for me.

  • Voters think Trump is a criminal, Biden is too old and DeSantis is a fascist: poll
  • This may not sway your vote, but a vote for a candidate that isn’t going to win might as well be a vote for Trump. The 2020 election was decide by 43,000 votes across three states. Maybe another Trump term is okay with you, but it’s something to consider.

  • Paul McCartney: AI has enabled a “final” Beatles song
  • Interesting, I wonder why this couldn’t be accomplished with conventional techniques. I own a handful of “AI” Plugins meant to achieve similar cleanup and I feel like it always needs to be tweaked to sound right. And that’s for a guy like me without practiced mixing ears. I wonder why real studio engineers needed AI.

  • US consumer prices rise moderately; underlying inflation strong
  • We were lucky enough to have bought our house in 2017 and refinanced during the historic low rates of 2020. At this point we are paying more per month for food than we do for our mortgage. I feel extremely fortunate and I feel badly for the millions out there dealing with this plus rent increases and the moratorium on student loans ending this summer.

  • New House Flooring - Is solid wood still best?
  • I have no expertise, but I would recommend balancing aesthetics with utility. We have an engineered hardwood in our house and our Golden has more or less destroyed it over 6 years just from normal use. My parents have this tile flooring that looks like hardwood and it’s SO robust. They have four dogs and their floors still look perfect. If I was going to do it all over again, I’d get the stylized tile.

  • Now is the time to post original content
  • I like this idea. It always bothered me that there were so many creative people on Reddit and they could not use Reddit to share their content because most subs had a “no self promotion” policy.

I get that you don’t want people spamming, but if someone works hard to create content they think a community would like then I see no reason that shouldn’t be celebrated.

  • In response to the disastrous Spez AMA, /r/Videos have announced that they will permanently shut down on 11th June, one day ahead of the planned blackout
  • In my opinion having mainstream adoption is a double edged sword. It’s nice to have that larger user base, but at the same time most subreddits went to crap when they became default subs. I’ll never forget starting out my career r/personalfinance was not a default sub and I could get very insightful specific advice from people who really seemed to understand what they were talking about. Flash forward and it became a default sub. Now it’s an echo chamber and borderline circlejerk sub. It feels like a parody of what it used to be.

So far I don’t miss that or mind the smaller feel here.
