  • Miami was never liberal. It was always a sort of libertarian with certain key issues like anti communism, pro masculinity, pro protectionism, pro small government. We saw them swing right in 2024, but if those were major issues in past elections, we would’ve seen a red Miami sooner. Miami is full of people that have an attitude problem imho.

  • Miami is Miami, St David is probably one of the safest cities in the country. It’s the Mormon college town home to Brigham university.

  • Miami and Saint David, UT come to mind. Outside the US though, lots of the Balkan major cities are much less liberal than western cities.

  • Depending on which state she works in, she might have no rights. Many states have a right to fire an employee for any reason.

  • Truth is, if you’re not descended from the original colonists, every African American has lineage in the US farther back.

“White” in America is actually a moving goalpost that has been moving since literally the founding of the colonies. “Whites” at the founding of America were Anglo Saxons literally defined as being “English”, who are descended from Germans who subjugated the natives of the British isles (NOT THE IRISH, NOR THE SCOTS). “Whites” today now comprise literally every fair skinned ethnic background that isn’t east Asian. I shit you not, I think Hispanics who are fair skinned will be the next group subsumed into the white category, followed by fair skinned East Asians. Based on the American definition of white, I, darker than some light skinned African Americans, am white. Middle Easterners are legally considered white because, I shit you not, the Supreme Court in the early 20th century considered Jesus to be white by definition, and since Jesus was middle eastern, middle easterners must also be considered “white”.

  • So the flip side to this argument is that high fructose corn syrup is chosen by Coca Cola to prop up corn producers…?

  • LA varies widely in food prices (I visit 2-3x a year). The overall vibe I can distill it down to is that these are competitive with small restaurants with no big name recognition or premium ingredients. UOVO pasta? 30-40$/serving. Some no name poke restaurant next to a Ralph’s? 15$ for a whole ass bowl of raw fish fresh from the fish market.

LA is the land of Star fuckers, where name recognition and vanity are above all else. If you stay away from the star fuckers, food there is actually affordable compared to the cost of living.

  • 4300km. I’ll go back for a few more funerals and maybe because downtown Boston has fantastic food.

  • Americans are too lazy to travel to their lunch. However, for the vast majority of the people, you’re not 15 minutes of walk away from a healthy assortment of food. Even in NYC, depending on where you are, it may not be possible to always go to your food. The idea of your lunch being paid is also not common, and you’re expected to be back to working (not done eating) within 30 minutes or less. In many cases, your lunchtime is timed and unpaid. Nurses and hospital staff? Eat the shit downstairs in the cafeteria or nothing; if you’re late coming back from lunch, it’s almost as bad as being late to work itself.

  • I always slathered or sprayed sunscreen on thick (Southern AZ) and hate how my eyes start to burn towards the end of the day, and I have a terrible taste in my mouth. Spent a month in France and bought sunscreen at the local bodega and had none of those issues (and I just bought the cheap shit). There’s definitely something to the American sunscreens that’s less friendly overall.
