  • There’s a bunch of influencers online that did the “boat life” thing in the Caribbean, so definitely check those out to learn from their mistakes.

I’d be willing to go out on a limb and say boating westward, from Panama, in the pacific would be basically impossible in a pedestrian boat.

  • The hard winters of QC really jack up the cost of living to the point where it’s not really worth it compared to other options you’ve listed. Also, immigration is more difficult in Canada vs France, IMHO (Canada is pretty strict about “what benefit will you bring to the country from your citizenship?”). Granted, Guyana is probably cheap living, but it’s really difficult to live there without being fluent in French (many of the locals speak French as a second language; relying on English to communicate will be incredibly difficult when French is the unifying language there, not English). The entire département has less than 300K people living there.

France is by far and away the best European country to immigrate to if you want to explore overseas tropical territories!

Get to at least an A2 level in French before traveling there, with B1 being a stretch goal. France is really well laid out, and there’s almost an obsessive compulsive culture of labeling everything, so you can really learn the language by just walking around a major city and reading everything.

I’d imagine establishing residence in Paris would be the easiest way to go about immersing yourself, getting naturalized, and then moving on to wherever else. Remember, the tropical overseas départements are generally financially poor and lack opportunities even for locals. There’s a reason why there aren’t giant populations in these tropical places.

  • Il y fait un peu froid… pourquoi pas Paris? Marseille?

  • By the time I was in school the Bohr model was already proven inaccurate, but was taught anyway because the orbital model is too esoteric for teenagers 🙄.

  • Cars are generally “locked in”, as far as their features and software are concerned, about 3 years prior to release. One of the reasons for the gigantic jump in car prices in 2018 (IIRC), in the US, was because that was the model year where a backup camera was required to be standard. The requirement to suddenly retool their assembly lines was a huge disruption. Notice how the Ioniq and Licid gravity are the only vehicles in 2025 with NACS, ~3 years after the brands announced their switch to it.

  • They didn’t get wireless AA/Carplay until MY24.

The infotainment overall is about as smooth as my original iPad Pro from like 6 years ago. The inbuilt maps is so slow and laggy to the touch that it’s unusable.

The screen is just overall way too small (see the screens in Ford, Tesla, GMC, and new Volvos). It’s not just for tech sake; the bigger the maps are, the easier it is to read at a glance.

  • I so wanted an Ioniq, but their terrible infotainment and tiny screens just ruined the brand for me

  • Where are they mandated?

  • I didn’t wanna be too graphic, but a spanking is nothing lol. My father attempted to beat me to death me a couple of times for defying his absolute authority (imagine thinking a pre-teen is in any way a threat to “authority”).

  • Holy shit I want to be sent one of these. It’s a golden ticket to living abroad with asylum lol.

  • Yes, as far as I know it just backs up the system and user files.

  • Why is there fishing wire on top?

  • Child abuse. I thought it was normal to threaten children with violence for noncompliance. I thought it was normal to be afraid to misbehave or be suboptimal in school at the threat of violence.

  • I mean, I get that Microsoft is trying to compete with MacOS and its Time Machine software, but why not just start from there and add the other bits as optional to the user? lol

  • As someone who harshly judges technology based on how many frames drop during regular use of the software, nothing even comes close to the Tesla software. Everything else on the American market with mayyyyybe an exception for polestar runs at sub 60fps. My F150 Lightning infotainment runs a maximum framerate of ~15fps. Using my infotainment screen is like using an LG chocolate from c. 2006.

Edit: I just watched a video of the LG chocolate, and it ran better than my infotainment software, notably, scrolling with the scroll wheel/volume knob. It takes a full 2 seconds for an input to register from the volume knob on my truck.

  • Turn off touchscreen beep on the car infotainment screen.

  • Was literally about to post about that. Going into this I was hoping the new trade war shit would’ve reignited the desire to switch, but alas: disappointment 🙃

  • It’s probably the same law that de facto bans French cars in the US.

  • As someone close to these kinds of communities, this is what they voted for, and are happy about it. Those with the ability to vote are voting to depopulate the community because they believe it will increase the economic opportunities available to them.
