  • 4E would have been a mess. Non DnD players already struggle with the mechanics of 5e in BG3, trying to get them used to 4e would have been worse. But I really hope DnD One is coming out soon and the next project will use that. That should get rid of the biggest issues of 5e, mainly that just a handful of builds are "competitive". Not having to take Great Weapon Master as a fighter anymore is something I am so looking forward to.

  • They totally exist. Anyone between 15-21 can be placed in a Young Offender Institution. Anyone 18+ can be placed in an adult or young offender. And anyone over 21 has to be in an adult prison.

In this scenario they are all sent to the same prison that has a special block for "foreign prisoners". This block isn't supposed to hold certain types of prisoners, like sex offenders, but according to the article it does.

So there are lots of steps that are failing, why this is rather "shocking".

  • For anyone who doesn't want to read the article. The children are people who's age has been disputed and the Home Office (Border Control) has declared them adults.

An organization working with age-disputed people says they identified 14 children that have been sent to an adult prison. The youngest is believed to be 14 years old. In total there are well over 1000 age disputed people.

Doesn't make the situation much better but explains how it happened. Also important, sometimes the only crime committed was seeking asylum. And officially sex offenders (and similar criminals) aren't supposed to be at that facility anymore. But they still are.

  • To my knowledge nothing has a global timer. And only a few quests have an actual time limit. But there you usually get some kind of warning if you are taking too long.

The only thing that's frequently time sensitive are individual encounters after you spotted them. So let's say you see two groups fighting. If you then take a long rest, the conflict is resolved and one side is dead. But if you have a save literally 10 seconds before spotting the encounter you could reload that, have a long rest, then walk the few more steps and the two groups are still fighting.

And even non violent NPCs can be time sensitive after spotting them. So if you see a person standing around, just talk to them immediately.

The exact distance when an encounter is triggered can be hard to judge sometimes. So if you want to make sure not to "miss" anything, have a long rest just after a fight. Walk around a little bit to see if any post fight scenes trigger but if not, it's usually a good spot for a rest. Also helps with getting rid of some lingering spell or environmental effects m

  • Overall the legal system isn't nearly as expensive as people think it is. Most cases can be dealt with for a few hundred dollars or less. Especially small court claims sometimes even prohibits the use of lawyers, so the only cost ist your time + getting a few documents.

But as the complexity of the case increases so does the price. And that's because you pay for a lot of time of people with specialized knowledge. But that's true for every profession.

These cases are what people usually talk about. These are the cases that get media attention. No one talks about the small court claims between Bob and John that took 30 minutes.

  • If we are only talking about entertainment, then yes. There are a ton of old books I eventually would like to read and having a dedicated year for them while getting paid for it would help with the motivation.

But if we are talking about all kinds of content, like news, reviews, tutorials, etc. Then the answer would be no.

I would say around 100k is where I am fine with taking off an entire year from everything. Then I would start traveling and basically not care about consuming content and just do all of the stuff I wanted to try. With 100k I think I don't need to much planning and researching and still have enough after the year to resume a normal life.

  • If normal poses a challenge you might be too conservative with your resources. It's perfectly fine to have a short rest after each fight to regain your abilities. And even long rests are basically free, so unless you are in one of the rare time sensitive moments use them a lot.

Also consumables should be used more freely. Elixirs last until a long rest, so are usually good for at least 3 fights. Potions and weapon coatings also add up, that additional D4 of the lowest poison does a lot. And it's just a bonus action to apply and lasts 10 turns .

Scrolls of spells you have already learned should be used if you are out of spell slots. You don't need to save them for a harder fight. You can always have a long rest before entering a hard fight. But they can make that random encounter you entered with few spell slots much easier.

And all of that goes hand in hand with organizing your ability bar. It's a pain to do but being able to see what you have available is so valuable. At the very least make use of the individual tabs for "Class abilities" "Spells" and "Consumables". They give you a better overview than the default bar.

  • Multiclassing is way more confusing and much easier to screw up your build with. The easiest difficulty is meant for people who don't know DnD/RPGs. That's why it makes sense to remove it.

But you can still multi class and play on easiest difficulty. You simply change the difficulty before leveling up and then change the difficulty back. You can change difficulty freely in the option.

  • Barbarian works well. Rage stays active after you wild shape, so you can be a raging bear.

Monk might also work. I am not sure how the calculations work in BG3. But you could potentially gain a decent amount of AC.

And as with all Spell casters a single level of Wizard gives you access to learn spells from scrolls. Spell levels aren't class locked in BG3, so you can still learn level 4 spells from scrolls even as a level 1 Wizard as soon as your Druid has access to level 4 spells. Druid isn't the best for this and sorcerer/cleric would benefit more from it. But it still gives a ton of additional utility ritual spells.

  • I would say the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon plays a bigger role here. Alcohol ads are super common and wouldn't be surprised if you just zoned them out before.

I am not going to deny that searching for anything alcohol related can increase the amount but I highly doubt it would be by such a large margin.

  • It's easy to misinterpret the law because it states you can only hire U.S. Persons without requiring approval. And naturally people would assume U.S. Persons means citizens. But the term also includes permanent residents, asylees, and refugees.

So SpaceX can't hire immigrants on a temporary visa without a lot of effort. But refugees and asylees are explicitly allowed to work at such companies.

  • The only alternative would be to take on a youth academy driver from someone else for extra money or cheaper parts. But considering how expensive Mick ended up being for them, I guess Haas is vary of that option.

  • The "at times" part could be in relation to "without breaks". He is working 14 hour shifts, at times without break. Still doesn't mean he would work 70 hours every week but I assume anyone who mentions they have to work 14 hour shifts does so regulary that they are working more than the standard 40 hour week. And that has to be considered when talking about the salary. The 70 hours would be "worst case scenario".

  • It will be harder in BG3. In BG1 and 2 the XP was split with the party. By playing solo your character would level faster and since solo plays basically always use spellcasters you gain access to higher level spells faster making many fights easier. Only the first few level in BG1 are a real pain. But that's even true in a party. Also in BG1 and 2 you can reroll your stats until you have 18 in everything, which means multiclassing/dual-classing is much stronger.

In BG3 XP is fixed, doesn't matter if you play solo or in a party of 4. So you will never outlevel your enemies and just stay 1/4 th the strength for the entire playthrough. The only thing BG3 has going for it, you can respecc at anypoint.

  • I too ended up with an more evil run than intended due to "failure" or maybe more underestimating the consequences of my (in)action which led to the death of a companion. In almost every other recent game I played I would have reloaded at that point. But it coincidentally aligned with me finding the Ancient Tome so I changed my Conjurer Wizard to a Necromancer and dipped into the evil side. I don't regret it at all. So now I go with whatever happens.
