  • I usually enjoy new slang. This is no exception, I'm going to drive my wife crazy saying this

  • Certainly we will not tolerate this? Where's the protest?

  • It seems like a lazy choice. Difficulty should be implemented meaningfully, and how that difficulty changes over time should add to the overall experience somehow. A rewarding gameplay loop doesn't automatically benefit from increasing stats over time, nor do fights get more satisfying the more artificially difficult they are. As the story progresses, I always prefer to see the stakes get raised, or new aspects of the gameplay loop unfold in interesting ways.

It's one of the things I hated about the Elder Scrolls series. I earned all my power and gear, but suddenly here we get a level-scaled bandit with all glass gear and inflated stats who has never killed so much as a rat. There's no satisfaction in killing those guys, they add nothing to the story, and their unearned power only serves to make your achievements feel hollow.

Give me new ways to approach the enemy, more choices, rather than higher stats. I know it scratches an itch to see a stat increase, but it creates a problem with few interesting solutions.

  • I didn't really care for ER as much, but I would be happy for them to continue to look for a new angle on the whole thing. The new thing they're doing is a miss for me, and I'd love to see what else they've got up their sleeve. I'd hate to think I'm done with their soulslikes, they do solid work overall.

  • These days any good news is immediately suspect.

Oh, you discovered a new species of frog? And what do they want, pray tell?

  • Oh, got it. That's a pity. It sounds like with steel there are ways to decarbonise, according to this article,

There are two paths to decarbonising steel. Capture the CO2 that’s emitted. Or get rid of the coke in the process. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) will probably be too expensive and seems unlikely. But we do have two options to do the process without coke. First, we could use hydrogen to strip the oxygen from the iron ore. Instead of producing CO2, you produce steam. This process is called ‘direct reduction’. Second, you can directly electrify the process. Boston Metal is an example of a company that’s innovating in this direct electrification space.

    But also,

Greening the steel industry would add around one-quarter to the world’s electricity demand.

So, yeah. I see your point.

  • I can't help where I'm from, but I can control where I end up at least. Took my family back to the UK a few years ago, since we've only been Americans for a generation or so. Reason being, I don't have much hope that the US can improve materially without a full-on regime change - I think obviously the American system contained the seeds of its own destruction from the outset, but the final straw (pardon the mixed metaphor) was Citizens United, which ended up being basically golden handcuffs for all elected officials. Only they can reverse it, and they won't because it's their money. It would take some eucatastrophe to undo all that, so I'll just have to take to the streets elsewhere when the time comes.

  • Incredible, isn't it - the actual right wing extremists support Zionism, but being against that gets you painted as "too far right". I'm from America so I'm used to there being no such thing as left, but goddamn

  • He looks like if Homer Simpson had a behelit.

To be clear, I love it.

  • Actually though. I can't bear football and I'd still rather kick a ball around than sit and watch it

  • Even imagining an attempt to ride this unspeakable contraception is making the dopamine leave my body

  • I have just dropped an "unsubscribe" on people once or twice.
