What is your most useful Linux app which others might not know about (please don't just give the name but a link and why it is good for you) ?

  • I wanted to get into Mastodon, but I can see why it didn't take off as much compared to Bluesky. It didn't prepopulate the home feed on first sign up (it was empty), and only gives a small selection of people to follow and you only see their posts. Bluesky does a similar thing, but the home feed uses suggestions based on the people you initially follow to populate the home feed with others as well.

    I think mass adoption would be easier for Mastodon to achieve with that kind of algorithmically generated prepopulation.

  • The biggest thing for me is being able to use my entire Steam Library (games accumulated over a decade) without having to repurchase any games. That alone was worth it. It handles a lot of games really well with only minor tweaks in the settings needed for some of them.
