  • Ugh this and it’s exhausting!

My mind: let’s use Linux to cut down telemetry and get some control over the distractions on my pc. (That’s a couple of weeks research rabbit hole, which could have been just one DL and install)

Now let’s do the phone (still going on)

Let’s host an rpg (jup, all the effort)

    Let’s write an album…

For once I’d like my mind to go “hey I love going for a walk or doing yoga”.

  • “All our efforts amount to nothing”

I wouldn’t say that. To me the obvious primary goal in life is to leave this place in a better shape then how you encountered it for the people that come after us.

If we truly take away the divisions in humanity (colour, religion, country,…) then there’s only one thing that remains: making sure we make it.

Love those around you and it’ll resound for generations. Clean up the planet and you just bought humanity a few more days if not years or ages.

It is NOT about what happens to us afterwards.

It is about what happens to them. The living.

  • A solution that I’m inching towards is just cutting the time I spend watching videos.

After years upon years watching YouTube and finally arriving at degoogling I’m starting to get to the point where I open up yt and … it’s not scratching that itch anymore. The realisation that this time is wasted and could’ve been spent on doing stuff that matters is nagging in my head.

Not to mention the thought of feeding big tech data that might end up aiding another atrocity unto humanity.

I can get my news elsewhere (here for example), tutorials might take some reading instead.

I’m not saying I’m gonna go cold turkey day one and be successful at it. But the idea is growing.

  • I have used Linux for a good while around the early 2000’s. Good memories.

Fast forward to now. Bought a new laptop with W11. hated it.

(Just imagine a long list of frustrations about W11, because I’m not going to contribute anything new by saying it) -and finally, I want my data to be mine!

And so now I get to annoy my wife about how awesome Linux is. My dad is on the train as well. We both annoy our wives with Linux.

  • Can we change the title to “meat industry has been nagging about this non issue for years now, so the babies are finally getting their non issue resolved?”

Ffs sell your product but don’t be a bitch about that tiny speck of competition.

  • Currently have 2 machines on MX with nvidia cards. One was flawless from the get go the other took some trail and error by installing some extra packages but I got there.

(Through the package manager I might add, no files edited or anything)

Mint has a somewhat similar user experience. Chances are you’ll be just fine. Try out a live usb.

  • The conversations I’ve had about her when she first made waves were all the same.

Them: I can’t stand her, who does that little pipsqueeck think she is telling adults what to do?

Me: What does her age have to do with what she is saying? Does it make the message any less true?

    Them: well… erm… I mean

The OBVIOUS takeaway didn’t have the “obvious takeaway” sticker all over it I guess ffs.

  • Why?

  • I used Linux for a good while 20 something years ago. Mostly for recording music and some gaming (you can say what you want, cube/sauerbraten/openarena/… I had a great time that I look back to fondly).

Then got back on windows around vista all the way to w11 7/8/10 all “ok” OS experiences imo.

11… man, this thing frustrates me so much. Everything you try to do is like getting gaslighted. Updates/reboots whenever it feels like, regardless of what you have going on. (My setup requires a few keystrokes at boot, if not the fan goes nuts)

Coming back to Linux feels like a breath of fresh air. Especially now that installing/using it has become a breeze compared to back then. It does what you ask. Why doesn’t big tech corp get that through its thick skull?

    Also, my data is mine.

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Installing Fedora 42 KDE, bios doesn't see my ssd anymore.
