Rather than telling Reddit users to migrate, share links to Fediverse posts to drive them here

The more people see the engagement, the more chance of them asking "what is that?" It won't be long until the apps are better, and links to articles could be less likely to get suppressed than migration memes.

I can only speak for myself, but I only saw Mastodon as viable after I started being exposed to the content there..

Is there a food that is cheap, delicious and healthy at the same time?
  • The one thing missing from the trinity is "effort". For instance, you could make any Dal, which would fit the trinity, but takes a lot of time. There are books with hundreds of Dal recipes that all taste different and work, too. And this is just one example. Less than a dollar a meal if made in bulk with rice.

  • Kev Quirk, one of the admins of Fosstodon (a Mastodon instance), destroys Meta in an email exchange.
  • Respectful post, but respectfully disagree. The longer the fediverse can stay free of monetary-driven communities, the longer it will last. Wait until the proposals for blue check marks and karma hit the ActivityPup "plus" standard and it's too late for the platform.

  • Who owns the Fediverse? I mean who owns and runs the hardware that runs this system?
  • Think of it like email vs a website. Microsoft.com isn't connected to Yahoo.com, but they store email originating from both places. The difference here is those emails are email lists (posts and comments from subscribed communities) and get sent automatically once they learn each other exist (because a user asked to get an email).

  • Please be "Sync for Lemmy" and not a "different" app using the same name

I tried almost every Reddit client. Sync is/was perfect. Card styling, customized swipes, two column mode on my tablet, on and on.

I really, really, hope this turns a out to be the Sync I know and love, vs a different app that shares only the name.

    Discussion: Lemmy.one and downvotes

Why are they disallowed? And more importantly, why is this not transparent in the pinned post about Lemmy.one as a rule?

I was blindsided by this when I saw another user mention it, and while I enjoy Lemmy.one very much, I'm considering moving on because of this. I rarely, very rarely, down-vote, but at times it's handy to push down misinformation or adverse content.

It feels a bit too much like YouTube and the removal of the dislike button to me. What are other's thoughts?

Why did you choose your instance?
  • I didn't come here to have my options limited. I'd stay on Reddit if that were the case, and I don't need another YouTube "remove dislike for my own good" moment.

Context: I rarely used downvotes on Reddit, but there were also pretty involved mods. I could see in this federated world a bit of wildness, and not being able to snuff out the misleading with downvotes could be an issue. I hope I rarely use it here, too, but it will only take not being able to once for it to be a deal-breaker.

Comcast blasted for seeking "loopholes" in rule requiring disclosure of all fees.

Comcast complains to FCC that listing all of its monthly fees is too hard

    > The FCC rules will force ISPs to accurately describe fees in labels given to customers, but Comcast said it wants the FCC to rescind a requirement related to "fees that ISPs may, but are not obligated to, pass through to customers." These include state Universal Service fees and other local fees.

    > As Comcast makes clear, it isn't required to pass these costs on to customers in the form of separate fees. Comcast could stop charging the fees and raise its advertised prices by the corresponding amount to more accurately convey its actual prices to customers. Instead, Comcast wants the FCC to change the rule so that it can continue charging the fees without itemizing them.
