In 2022, when Pi4s were going for $150-200, I managed to get a 7th gen NUC for about $150. I was looking to start Home Assistant, so both were viable options, but even the Pi5’s coming close to $100 retail, spending 50% more gets you a lot more performance for a 7th gen intel i5/i7 mobile chip, 16gb of RAM and a 256GB NVME.
So one thing I’ve discovered is you can’t have ANY resistance on the spool when the printer is homing. If the filament goes taught as the extruder moves down, it thinks the nozzle moved up and thinks it has a homing error.

Just picked new appliances for our house. I wanted to look at induction but the ones that were within budget had some questionable reliability in the reviews. However we made sure we have the beefy outlet so we can upgrade as the price comes down. I miss cooking with gas but new electric stoves and some good pans are not that bad. It’ll hold us over until upgrade time… I hope.
They do that on their own. VMWare would blow up every deal we tried working with Dell, and our account reps told us everyone in Dell despised the VMWare account teams. The company that struggles to make a shit that doesn’t suck?
And that’s why we’re switching to OpenStack next year…

I did. It was a better setup than last year where the companies were smaller and they had the empty “artist/hobbyist” tables, but it was definitely more corporate this year as well.
Was just there yesterday… honestly. While there’s a lot of “RepRap” spirit, it was like 75% big company booths (PrintedSolid, Prusa, E3D, LDO, 3DGloop, Protopasta, Polymaker, Slice Engineering to name a few) this year. Which is cool, but it’s not the small little hacker space sort of vibe it started as.
I’d wager part of it was because of the outrage when they switched from the 30 pin was significant
It’s the king of ports at the moment but I have concerns about the fact there’s that “prong” in the middle of the female connector. It seems like it could be something to break. I did like the fact there wasn’t anything in the middle of the lightning port, made it seem more durable to me over time (at least the port side, but that’s what you want with these things…)
Nevermind that the same connector could be USB 3.1 Gen X fuckton-gigabit, USB4, Thunderbolt 3 or 4… USB needs to learn from the WiFi groups recent rename scheme…
Once reported an obvious anti-Semitic post that I found (was curious if they actually would). Took them a week or two but they actually took it down. I was shocked.
Xfinity also lied and told me there wouldn’t be a cancellation fee since I wasn’t under contract (so I thought) and I was moving to an area that they didn’t serve.
Turns out when I had called in a year prior with a question they “renewed” the contract without my approval and there WAS a cancellation fee. But never told me. Never sent me a bill.
Didn’t know anything until I got a collections letter for $400. Called them up and they had the notes on my account from the three different reps I spoke to over the phone to confirm there was no fee. Because there were so many conflicting reports online I wanted to be sure. They did not give a fuck and pretty much admitted their reps lied.
So fuck Xfinity.
About to move to a new house, pretty much had to harass Verizon for a week to add the address to their database so I could move our service.
$70/mo for 1Gig up/down with no cap. The alternative was Xfinity.
I was not going to Xfinity.
Also sometimes the FOSS software sucks compared to the non-open alternatives.
I would say it’s not the BEST solution but in areas in the extreme north/south, where solar/hydro aren’t options (and I legit have no idea how well wind would do with freezing weather/snow etc) it would be better to have nuclear there than to try and transmit long distance to those areas. At least until we get some more breakthroughs in energy storage.
I had ZERO idea what Stone Mountain was when we went there.
I’m from NJ, and my partner and I alternate which family we spend the holidays with, and her family is in Georgia. One Christmas we went down and they brought us there at night, and I thought it was fine.
Little shops, a train ride with Christmas lights and food places. Nice little “Christmas village” vibe. I thought it was like a state park or something.
My partner was looking at Christmas ornaments and there were ones that said “Stone Mountain” etc and then I saw a bunch of Christian ones. Like Baby Jesus in a manger… and I thought it was weird that a government park like that had religious stuff in it, and that’s when the cracks started to show.
Then I googled it once we got home, and holy crap!
American internet isn’t all crap. I pay about $70 for Gigabit.
