Another fun fact is that using ether during childbirth was forbidden by church for a long time because bible specifically says that giving birth in pain is God's punishment.
Dude, this is not going to happen. They will be exposes to lead for 100 more years, not 10. This is just empty talk. Money for this will be stolen by private companies or corrupt officials. To do projects like this you need a strong central government which US doesn't have. What was the last big investment in infrastructure they did? Energy lines are shit, railway's nonexistent, public education sux, there's no public healthcare and prisons are torture centres. They only ever do things if some corporation can make money off of it. My guess is companies will take money for this and then do nothing, same like happened with fast Internet.
But seriously, they have some crazy allergies there. No idea why, probably because of all the artificial food and contamination in general. It's just not a very healthy place to live.
I can't come up with another example in polish but my surname could be translated to Spanish equivalent, same as first name. It's like if you're George White and change it to Gregorio Blanco.
Oh, they will never get used to saying those names because they are just not able to make polish sounds. In polish there's a lot of weird sounds like 'szcz' (shsh) or thinks like 'prz', 'zsz', 'dżdż' that foreigners just can't reproduce. My name is like that. And even if they learn to kind of almost say it they are never able to write it. People at work always make mistakes when writing my name.
Yes, I could kind of do it for first name but I would still have to change my last name. When for example I call customer support and they ask me how to refer to me I just tell them something like 'Greg', something they can pronounce. But more often the need my actual name.
How was the transition? Did you correct everyone when they used the old name or do you just let old friends keep using it? I would just let my polish friends/family use my polish name obviously.
I can use nicknames with friends but when someone has to write it down it's usually a legal matter (like talking to some official or bank) and they need my real name. And they need first and last name.
So? You want to have kids then have kids. No one is saying kids should be forbidden. What I'm saying is that a lot of people decide to have kids when they don't have enough time and money for it and have lousy experience. And a lot (and like really really a lot) of people are simply bad at parenting and their kids also have lousy experience. You were lucky to have the resources and skills to raise your kids right. Good for you. Problem is that when you say 'kids and fantastic' a lot of people think they are fantastic for everyone. We should be saying 'kids are fantastic if you have the resources, time and skills needed to take care of them properly' instead. The 'why don't you have kids? kids are fantastic!' attitude that's the problem. It makes people think they are missing out on something great when they don't have them and puts a lot of needles pressure on couples. Having kids shouldn't be the default, it should be an option for the right people.
I don't care and usually let people speak the way they like but when my girlfriend says 'voy a subir arriba' I always tell her that you can't 'subir abajo' just to annoy her.
And I think it's one more thing that Poland will copy from US. People got super exited when the right wing government lost the election but my prediction has always been that the "progressive" government will be extremely meh and in 4 years they will lose anyway.
