It's the risk of knocking it over and making a huge fucking mess, it's thrilling.
Then they did some consultations with the public and said that not enough people wanted it.
Worse than that, Trudeau straight up said "People wanted electoral reform because they were unsatisfied under the Harper government, now that we're in power everything is fine and people don't care about electoral reform anymore."
Source article in Le Devoir (French), I'll quote the relevant part here:
« Sous M. [Stephen] Harper, il y avait tellement de gens mécontents du gouvernement et de son approche que les gens disaient “ça prend une réforme électorale pour ne plus avoir de gouvernement qu’on n’aime pas”. Or, sous le système actuel, ils ont maintenant un gouvernement avec lequel ils sont plus satisfaits. Et la motivation de vouloir changer le système électoral est moins percutante [ou moins criante] »
If your VPN has Canadian servers, CBC always has a very good website for watching the Olympics and IIRC you only need a Canadian IP address to access it.
I bought the fancier model that can connect to the sink for hot water and never bothered setting it up, you get used to the cold water fast enough.
I honestly like it, a blast of cold water up the ass perks me up better than coffee in the mornings.

Another issue is how much easier it is to up your nicotine content. When my little brother started vaping, he went up to the equivalent of a pack of smoke's worth of nicotine per day within a couple of months.
Whereas I, who got addicted to nicotine the old fashioned way, took a couple years before I was smoking a pack a day, because otherwise I would have been coughing my lungs out.
Fat-shaming is definitely an issue across the political spectrum, unfortunately.
Vapes are as tightly controlled as cigarettes (at least here in Canada).
The issue is that cigarettes aren't as tightly regulated as you'd think. Pretty much every town has that one spot where local teens know they won't get carded for nicotine products.
Calling him a "cocksucker" is frankly insulting to people who perform the act of sucking cock. Musk is way too selfish to perform the generous and loving act that is fellatio.
Because a lot of Canadians are racist, also people have somehow been convinced that the housing crisis and the lousy job market are the fault of foreign students and immigrants rather than the fault of landlords and other disgustingly rich people.
People in this comment section being shining examples of why some fat people would feel uncomfortable at the beach.
On another note fuck Trudeau for running again, essentially guaranteeing that Canada will have a fucking Con gov't
I definitely don't disagree with you here, but on the other hand, I don't imagine the Liberals pushing a candidate that wouldn't just bring them even further right of centre...

As for issues, the only one I've heard really people complain about is the lack of Google Pay. I've never used it so it doesn't make any difference for me. Apparently, some banking apps have issues on GrapheneOS too, but both my banks' apps work fine.
Once, I was in a sandwich shop in the Netherlands, ordering in English (as I don't speak Dutch). The fellow behind the counter had excellent English. When he heard my friend and I speak to each other in French, he switched to French, and it was nearly as good as his English.
That's a guy working in a sandwich shop, speaking at least three languages rather fluently. Heck, he probably speaks a bit of German too, seeing as we were close to the border with Germany. It blew my mind as a Canadian who's used to people being stubbornly unilingual.
Speaking more than one language is so cool. It's good for your brain, it helps one understand the structure of language better, it opens up doors to new cultures and ideas. I truly don't understand why so many anglophones (and, if I'm being honest, a good number of francophones in Québec) are so opposed to the idea of bilingualism.
///

It's fascinating that you consider participation in the events of Jan 6 a "political view" rather than an action.
You're completely right, I am not a nutritionist, and honestly I'd truly hope no one takes their nutrition advice from strangers on Lemmy. Next time I'll add a disclaimer though, that's a fair enough point.
That being said, I've been vegan for over 7 years, supplementing only B12 (and D during the winter) and I'm not dead yet.
I've known from a pretty early age that I never want kids. Don't get me wrong, I actually love kids. At social events I'll often be the one entertaining them, and I can't wait for my friends to start having kids so I can be the cool & fun babysitter.
However, kids are dreadful roommates, I'd be a horrible parent, I don't want to bring a living being into this cruel world (especially with climate change), I'm too poor for children, and, being non-binary, parenthood just seems so tied down to gender norms I don't adhere to.
Being vegan is recent fad or trendy thing from the perspective of world history.
Abstaining from animal products has been a thing for at least a couple centuries (see al-Ma'arri)
Nutritionally, veganism is not healthy without an extensive amount of supplements.
The only supplement you must absolutely take on a vegan diet is vitamin B12. The source of vitamin B12 in omnivore diets is also supplements, albeit given to the animals raised for slaughter rather than taken directly. Supplementing omega-3 is also highly recommended for vegans. The other ones you'll hear mentioned are vitamin D3 and iodine, with both of which many foods are fortified since most people, including those who eat an omnivorous diet, don't get enough of these through their food. This is hardly what I'd call "an extensive amount of supplements". I've been vegan for 7 years and the only supplements I take are B12, as well as vitamin D during the winter months since I live in a northern area.
Veganism is an opinion or philosophy, it does not come from any doctrinal teachings with historical writings to count as a belief system on the same level as someone who can only eat certified kosher food.
I agree, a person's carefully thought-out ethical decisions about what they consume are different from someone doing something because an old book tells them to.
Air Canada has been ordered to compensate a B.C. man because its chatbot gave him inaccurate information.
![Air Canada's chatbot gave a B.C. man the wrong information. Now, the airline has to pay for the mistake](https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/4b1212e5-b77d-4caa-b3aa-244d81034bf9.jpeg?format=webp&thumbnail=256)
Jake Moffatt was booking a flight to Toronto and asked the bot about the airline's bereavement rates – reduced fares provided in the event someone needs to travel due to the death of an immediate family member.
Moffatt said he was told that these fares could be claimed retroactively by completing a refund application within 90 days of the date the ticket was issued, and submitted a screenshot of his conversation with the bot as evidence supporting this claim.
The airline refused the refund because it said its policy was that bereavement fare could not, in fact, be claimed retroactively.
Air Canada argued that it could not be held liable for information provided by the bot.

Hello! I've posted this a few weeks ago on /c/linux4noobs@programming.dev but I didn't get much of an answer, I hope it's okay to post it here as well.
I use 3 audio devices on my computer: my monitor's speakers (through HDMI), my headphones (through line-out/built-in audio) and my microphone (line-in/built-in audio). They all work fine, but when I reboot my headphones / line-out don't seem to get recognized at all.
The only solution I've found thus far is to re-install alsa-utils twice after rebooting. Upon the first reinstall, my line-out / headphones reappear but my line-in mic disappears, only to come back after the second reinstall. Technically my sound works perfectly fine after this, but it feels extremely dumb to reinstall a package twice after every reboot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :)
Hi there! For context, I'm on EndeavourOS using Pipewire.
So like the title says, my audio configuration works until I reboot my PC and then I need to fix it. I'm using both my CPU's internal audio (to power a microphone and headphones through 3.5mm audio jacks) as well as my GPU (to send audio to my monitor through HDMI). I never use the headphones and monitor speakers concurrently, I switch between them in the device manager as needed.
When I reboot, only my HDMI audio and microphone appear in my device manager. The only fix I've found so far is to sudo pacman -S alsa-utils
, which makes my internal audio reappear but makes my microphone disappear. I then re-reinstall alsa-utils which makes the microphone reappear, giving me access to all three of my devices.
Anyone have any leads on how to permanently fix this? My system still works, but it feels really silly re-installing alsa-utils twice after every reboot.

L'nouvel album va sortir le 26 avril! J'suis déjà ben hyped pis j'ai mes tickets pour le premier soir à Moncton!
Okay I'm fully aware of how ridiculous this sounds in 2023, but bare with me.
I have a wonderful neighbour, Jackie. She's in her mid-sixties, and ever since she moved in we have become very good friends, she's like a second mom to me.
Jackie loves movies and has an enormous DVD collection. One day, she was talking about how she couldn't find a particular movie, and I said "I can probably download that for you!" Her immediate reply was "Can you put it on a DVD?" I tried telling her the many reasons it would be better to use a myriad of other solutions, but she insists on DVDs.
I did them for a while using DVDStyler on Windows, and it worked fine. But then I installed EndeavourOS on a new partition on my hard drive, tried using Brasero and Devede but it wouldn't read on her DVD player. Then I tried DVDStyler on my Linux partition, and it didn't work on her DVD player, despite saying the operation was successful on my end. I then tried booting up into Windows and using DVDStyler, and that also didn't work, not even letting me burn the disc. Does anyone have any ideas what could fix this? I've tried playing around with the settings in all these apps but I couldn't figure it out.
Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask this, but I figured a community of pirates would understand my desire to get movies to Jackie without her having to pray to find them in a pawn shop!
I've been using Feeder on my phone, and while I quite like the app, I would love a widget for my RSS feeds on my launcher.
Are there any apps that include a widget, or standalone widgets, but that are also FOSS?
